Homes and Trees
It isn’t too far-fetched to say that
“homes grow on trees.”
According to U. S. Bureau of La
bor Statistics, 5 of every 8 new
homes have wood structures. This
involves about 10,000 board feet
for each dwelling.
Last year, enough Southern Pine
lumber was produced to frame one
million homes. Most of this enor
p ous production was used for fram
ing purposes.
From all appearances, the future
of both homes and trees is in good
shape. There are about 38 billion
Southern Pine trees and their num
ber is increasing every year.
The Bolton Factory, built in
Wilkes county in 1811, was the
first successfully operated tex
tile mill in Georgia, declare

tension Service.
