ADD THIS ONE to the current ।

“World Peace Through World ,

That is the cry of those who I
are ciusading for repeal of the ■

exercise of ju

their domestic

phrase “as determined by the
United States” which vm insert

it adopted m 1946 giving limited
recognition to that tribunal.
Known as the Connally Reserva
tion, they were added at th* in
sistence of that great American,
former United States Senator
Tom Connally of Texas, to insure
that the determination of what is
and is not a domestic matter
would be made by the United
States and not the Court.

AS THE MATTER now stands,
the United States possesses a
veto over the World Court, as it is
commonly called, by retaining the
right to decide for itself whether
case* brought against it by other
nations are domestic in nature.
Repeal of the Connally Reserva
tion, while leaving intact the spe
cification that the Court would
not have jurisdiction over the in
ternal affairs of the country,
would give the Court power to
decide whether any given case i
involved domestic questions.

six words, such vital matters as i

sessions and territories would
come within the purview of that
tribunal. It i* not at all far
fetched to assume that the Court’*
15 judges, including jurists from
Russia, Poland and several of the
so-called neutralist nations, would
also want to take cognizance of
questions involving race relation*

THE UNITED STATES i* not
alone in having instated that th*
International Court of Justice b«
united to resolving parely-inter
national issue*. Twenty-two other
countries, in accepting the Court’*
jurisdiction, have insisted upon
restrictions similar to the Con
nally Reservation.
The long campaign of the inter
nationalists and one-worlders for
the repeal of that Reservation has
gained momentum with the sur
prising endorsement of President
Eisenhower. Advocates of such
action insist that the United
States should take it to “set a
good example” for the rest of the
world and thus enhance the cause
of world peace.
Anyone who genuinely believes
that under present conditions
there is any prospect '>r world
peace or that there can be any
such thing as world law is naive
indeed and is totally divorced
from reality. To the contrary, to
repeal the Connally Reservation
not only would betray our own
national interests but ‘also would
give our Communist enemies a
club with which to beat us over
the head.

On cold mornings you are likely

start out on the road so that you

off the road to wipe off the

Clear the rear window as well as
the windshield. Drive only when
you ean see clearly through the
glass in your car.

KEEP YOUR TEMPER!
PM
With many roads overloaded
with cars, traffic jams are fre
quent. nerves become frayed.
Tempers can flare when some
one leans on the horn, cuts from
one lane to another, even yells
out the car window at you. This
is the time to remember you
don’t make things right by
“blowing up", getting sore at
the other fellow. Take it easy,
curb your temper. You’ll enjoy
life better, stay safer for it.

THESE ROADS IGNORE FATHER TIME!
Modern concrete will last
SO years and more!
Reports from state after state show that concrete pavements have
outlasted other types 2 to 1. The new roads will do even better!
Fifty yean from now, can will still be rolling smoothly on this
same concrete. Same surface, t 00... not resurfaced 4or 5 times.
Concrete grows stronger with age. Other paving materials act
just the opposite. Sun, rain, freezing can’t hurt concrete.
That’s why it stays flat and smooth riding—doesn’t get rippled
and wavy. That’s why upkeep costa are as much as 60% lower
than for asphalt.
And concrete means a skid-resistant pavement,
one that lets you see better at night. Write pavement could be Streeter
