Mrs. Ellison Wilkerson Was Hostess
To Laura Thompson Circle Meeting
PORTERDALE — The Laura
Thompson Circle of the Porter
dale Baptist Church met at the
home of Mrs. Ellison Wilkerson
for their March meeting. Mrs.
Eloise Ragan welcomed eight
members who were present. Mrs.
James Brooks led the opening
prayer.
The Watchword was repeated
in unison. Minutes were read by
Mrs. Archie Patterson. Mrs.
Grady Bowden gave the report of
the treasury. •
Community Missions Chairman
Mrs. Bessie Criswell told of a
visit to a sick family’s home and
the gift of fruit and juices. Mrs.
Bowden reported a s Mission
Study Chairman.
Program Chairman, Mrs. Ar
chie Patterson, presented Mrs.
Grady Bowden as speaker for the
evening. She brought an inspir
ing devotional “What Praye’ - Is’’
using passages from Revelation,

A lovely social hour was enjoy
ed at the conclusion of the meet
ing. Refreshments of sandwiches,
potato chips, pound cake and
coffee were served by the hostess.

spent Sunday in Gainesville,
as guests of their daughter,
Miss Irene Robinson, a student
at Brenau College. On Mon
day Mrs. Robinson enjoyed a
family gathering at the home
of her mother, Mrs. J. D.

Marriage Os Miss Vicki Hooten,
Mr. Hunter Solemnized at Madison
Mr. and Mrs. Joe Hooten an
nounce the marriage of their
daughter, Vicki Louise, to Ro
bert Ballard Hunter, at Madi
son Methodist Church, on Fri
day, March 11. The Rev. Mr.
Robert Taylor performed the
impressive, double ring cere
mony.
Attending the couple were
Miss Linda Hudson and Robert
Mitchell.
Mrs. Hunter, only daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. Hooten, is a
Mrs. Michael Pulliam Complimented at
Miscellaneous Shower by Mrs. Johnson
Mrs. Michael Pulliam recent
bride, was the central figure at
a miscellaneous shower on Sat
urday evening, at which Mrs.
James Johnson was hostess at
her Jackson Road home.
Pink and white formed the
color scheme of the decorative
features which enhanced the
attractive setting. White glad
iolus arrangements in white
ceramic containers keynoted
the nuptial theme in the living
room and den.
The refreshment table, over
laid with white embroidered
cutwork cloth, held a center
piece of pink and white roses
and tulips, interspersed with
pink and white spires of mon
do blooms, flanked by crystal
candelabra holding pink ta

Women Os Porterdale Presbyterian
Church Met Tuesday; Officers Elected
The Women of the Church of
the Porterdale Presbyterian
Church held their regular
monthly meeting on Tuesday,
March Bth., in the lounge of
the Church.
The meeting was opened
with prayer.
Mrs. Billy Crowell, Vice-
President, presided over the
business session. Minutes were
read and approved, treasurer’s
report was given. Reports of
i committees were given. Mrs.

Mr. Hunter, son of Mr. and
Mrs. W. F. Hunter of Mobile,
Ala., is also a Newton High
senior, and one of the outstand
ing members of NCHS Foot
ball ana Basketball teams.
After a brief wedding trip
to Mobile, Ala., the young cou
ple will reside with their pa
rents, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Hooten,
at 1010 North Emory St.
bowl, base garlanded with
greenery interspersed with jon
quil and hyacinth florets, and
crystal and silver trays of dain
ty party sandwiches and mints
topped with wedding bells and
valley lilies, completed the at
tractive appointments.
A series of games and con
tests was enjoyed by the group,
with the final game serving as
a prelude to presentation of the
gifts, which were attractively
arranged upon the adjoining
breakfast room table. Open
ing of the many beautiful and
useful gifts contributed to the
festiveness of the occasion.

tertaining the some sixty invit
ed guests were members of the
High Point Baptist Church
Young People’s Department.

Miss Arline White. The officers
were elected unanimously. The
new year for the Circle will
begin on October 1, 1960. Of
ficers were elected for a two
year period.
Miss Mae Hardman gave the
Bible Study which was an in
spiration to the group.
Mrs. Laura Frances Shaw
and Miss Mae Hardman were
hostesses, refreshments served
after the closing of the meet
ing.
Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Castleberry
and sons, Tommy, Lester and
Charles visited Mrs. W. B. Har
vey at Rocky Plains, Sunday after
noon. Mrs. Harvey is now a
patient at an Atlanta hospital as
she underwent surgery Tuesday.
March Meeting Os Wesleyan Service
Guild Held At Bohannon Home
The March meeting of the
Wesleyan Service Guild was
held at the home of Mrs. Dave
Bohannon. The president call
ed the meeting to order with
all members repeating the
Lord’s Prayer. Minutes were
read and approved and all
members were urged to com
plete their pledge. Mrs. Miller
reported on the cards sent to
the sick. A new member, Mrs.
Lucille Smith, was welcomed.
It was discussed whether or
not to elect officers to serve
two years. A motion was made
by Mrs. Victor Johnson and
seconded by Mrs. Pound that

On Occasion of Husband's Birthday
PORTERDALE—Mrs. James
Adams entertained friends with
a birthday dinner honoring Mr.
Adams on Sunday, March 13.
The home was beautifully de
corated throughout with spring
flowers, and the table where
dinner was served had a love
ly St. Patrick’s Day motif.
Guests were greeted at the
door by two young lady beat
niks, dyked out in appropriate
attire. Fun prevailed through
every part of the day’s activi
ties, which were introduced by
clever and humorous invita
tions.
The guest list for this de
lightful occasion included Mr.
and Mrs. Joel Crane of Indian
Springs; Mr. and Mrs. Charles

Is Hostess To
Family Gathering
Mrs. C. L. Sigman of Mansfield
had as her guests Sunday Mr.
and Mrs. F. D. Sides and family
of Jacksonville, Florida. Mr. and
Mrs. S. M. Robertson and family
of Chattanooga, Tenn., Mr. and
Mrs. Idus Harwell and family of
Atlanta, Mr. and Mrs. William
Crawford and family and Mr. and
Mrs. Fred Harwell and family of
Covington.
Mr. and Mrs. Sides and family
have just returned from a tour us
duty of three and a half years at
Fort Lyantey, Morocco. The
occasion Sunday also celebrated
the 15th birthday of Miss Pam
Robertson and the first birthday
of Master David Sides. This was
the first time in eight years Mrs.
Sigman has had all her children
with their families together.

were the Sunday dinner guests of
Mr. and Mrs. J. Pierce Newtcn,

charge of the program for the
evening. Mrs. Paul Adams gave
the devotional on stewardship.
The program was a discussion
on “How Total Is My Steward
ship” including stewardship of
time, possessions, and talents.
Mrs. Freeman gave a very in
teresting discussion of this. At
the conclusion of the program
the meeting was adjourned.
The hostesses served delici
ous refreshments during the
social hour.

Pittman Circle meeting of the
W.S.C.S. of the Julia A. Por
ter Memorial Methodist Church
on Monday, March 14, at the
Lola Drennon classroom in the
church. Mrs. Milford Johnson
presided over the session.
During the business period,
an important matter of interest
was the choice of Life Mem
bership for a worthy member.
For the program, members
of the Ethel Belcher Circle
with their guest speaker join
ed this group. Mrs. J. W. Ed
wards introduced Mrs. Iris
Standard Who gave timely and
challenging remarks on
“Thoughts About the Church”.
