man, Mrs. E. A. Rhoads, pre
. siding, asked all to join her
in the Lord’s prayer.
After welcoming the new
members, she called for re
ports of officers and commit
tee chairmen. Offering enve
lopes for the Day of Prayer
and typed assignments for
the month of November were
distributed and Mrs. Rhoads
requested that the offering en
velopes be returned at t h e
evening service on October 30
or before. She told of a reauest
from the Ethel Harpst Home
for children’s clothing in all
sizes through 16 years. The

The Susie B. Stone Circle of
the Allen Memorial Methodist
Church met at the home of
Mrs. John Burson on Tuesday
evening, October 18, with
eleven members present.
The vice chairman, Mrs. Wal
ter Y. Murphy, opened the
meeting with an appropriate
devotional concerning the
beauties of nature and the de
velopment of "seeing eyes and
listenii g ears.” The chairman.
Mrs. John Burson, presided
over the business session and
announced that the November
meeting will be held at the
home of Mrs. Cecil Allgood
with Miss Rebecca Weldon in
charge of the program. Mem
bers were reminded to send
clothing to the Ethel Harpst
Home in Cedartown. Mrs. Bur

Work announced that the chil
dren of the church will collect

of bridge, when Mrs. Callaway
was hostess to her club at her
Emory Street home.
A striking arrangement of
yellow into bronze chrysanthe
mums with lunaria to empha
size lines, in a copper washed
pewter urn, formed the en
trance hall arrangement.
Bronze and yellow chrysanthe
mums were also used in a cry
stal compote as the dining ta
ble’s centerpiece.
Newton High FHA Chapter Members
Honor Their Mothers At 'Cook Out'
The Newton High Future
Homemakers Chapter honoied
their mothers with a “Cook
Out” at the Lion’s Club Pavil
ion Monday evening. The
mothers were really queens for
the occasion. Each daughter
served her mother and
was especially attentive to her
needs during the meal. The
daughters prepared, cooked
and served during the entire
affair. The mothers received a
real thrill as they watched the
“cooks” being so careful fry
ing hamburgers and as they
topped the meal with toasted
marshmallows. Never have
daughters been more gracious
in serving the second cup of
coffee.
After the meal, the tables
were cleared and a white cloth,

Plans Discussed For Future Work
PORTERDALE — Nineteen
members and two visitors were
present for the meeting of the
Porterdale Woman’s C 1 u o,
Morning Division, on Tuesday
morning, October 18, at ten
O’clock when Mrs. Nina Day.
Chairman, opened the meeting
with the group united to sing
“What a Friend”. The group
prayed the Lord’s Prayer in
unison.
Mrs. Travis Christian brought
an interesting devotional en
titled “What You Don’t Know
Will Hurt You”. Miss Mae
Hardman read some rules on
“How to Get Along With Peo
ple” and a “Kitchen Prayer”
by Betty Stoffel. Mrs. Chris
tian and Frances Fields, mem
ber of the Eighth Grade, ren
derM a duet “How Great Thou
Art”.
Mrs. Day thanked the com
mittee for their program.

tailed report from the trans
actions at the Night Division
Meeting. Mrs. Christian assist
ed her in distributing tickets
for the Chicken Stew Sale
scheduled for November 19 at
the Porter Gymnasium Kitchen.
Each lady was asked to buy at
least two quarts or sell tickets
for same amount. A committee
was named to assist in prepar
ing the ingredients on Novem
ber 18. Ladies from this group
named by Mrs. Claud Cason,
chairman, were: Mrs. Ji m
Hughes, Mrs. Frances Cason,
Mrs. James Mitchell.
Ladies were asked to meet
on November 23 to prepare
the shut in friends’ Thanks
giving remembrances. This will
be discussed further at the No
vember 15 meeting.
The group voted to continue
supporting the five drives.
