Miss Patsy Martin Become Bride Os
Jack Lazenby At Grace Ceremony
Miss Patsy Martin, daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. David Martin
of Route 1, Covington, was
united in marriage Sunday af
ternoon, October 30, to Jack
Lazenby, son of Mr. and Mrs.
Melvin Lazenby. The impres
sive double ring, candlelight
service, was performed by Rev.
Ivan Juhan, at the Grace Bap
tist Church, near Porterdale.
The altar was beautifully
decorated with a background
of potted palms and ferns with
tall floor baskets of mammoth
mums and chrysanthemums in
terspersed with four-seven
branched candelabra holding
white tapers.
Lanier Smallwood rendered
a program of appropriate nup
tial music prior to and during
the service, and accompanied
Jack Norwood, soloist, who
sang, “Because”, and as part of
the wedding service, “The
Lord’s Prayer”.
Serving as best man was
Jimmy Martin, brother of the
bride. Usher-groomsmen were
Bobby Martin, brother of the
bride and Pat Lazenby, broth
er of the groom.
Miss Kay Martin, niece of
the bride, as flower girl, wore
an orchid floor length dress of
silk organza over taffeta with
a headband of orchid satin. She
carried a white satin basket
of chrysanthemum petals.
Master Ralph Neil Stewart
Jr., nephew of the bride, was
ring bearer.

Miss Polly Smallwood, as
maid of honor, with Miss La-
Rue Chapman and Mrs. Nita
Cunard of Atlanta, sister of
the groom, as bridesmaids,
were identically dressed in bal
lerina length dresses of orchid
silk organza over taffeta fea
turing tight fitting bodices and
full skirts. They wore match
ing orchid head pieces and
shoes and carried nosegays of
white mums and lavender
chrysanthemums tied with long
white satin streamers.
The bride, given in marriage
by her father, wore a floor
length chantilly lace and tulle
fashioned with a tight fitting
appliqued lace bodice featuring
tight fitting sleeves ending in
points over the wrists and a
small Peter Pan collar. The
tulle skirt featured an over
skirt of appliqued lace and a
ruffled underskirt. Her finger
tip veil was attached to a bead
ed crown. She carried a white
satin Bible topped with a brid
al bouquet of white carnations
and long white satin ribbon
streamers. The traditional
something old, new, borrowed
and blue was carried out by
the bride.
Mrs. Martin, the bride's
mother, selected for the occa
sion a royal blue silk dress with
which she wore matching ac
cessories. She wore a corsage
of white carnations.
Mrs. Lazenby selected for
her son’s wedding a royal blue
two piece suit with matching
accessories. She also wore a
white carnation corsage.
The bride’s parents enter
tained immediately following
the ceremony with a reception
at their home. A color scheme
of lavender and white was car
ried out in the decorations and
arrangements throughout the
rooms.
The bride's table was over
laid with a white cutwork
cloth and held as its central
decoration the large beautiful
ly embossed three tiered wed
ding cake, topped with a mini
ature bride and groom. The
base was garlanded with tulle
and frosting white orcnids.
Serving punch from either end
of the table were Miss Dianne
Smallwood and Miss Judy
Covington Music Club Met Tuesday
At Home Os Mrs. Lee Stephenson
The second meeting of the
Covington Music Club was held
Tuesday evening, October 25,
at the home of Mrs. Lee Ste
phenson, club president. The
meeting was called to order,
the minutes read and approved,
and a treasurer’s report given
by Mrs. Claude Jordan.
Mrs. Stephenson announced
that tickets for ‘‘Bull in a
China Shop" are now on sale.
The play will be presented No
vember 16 and 17 by the local
Theater Guild for the bene
fit of the High School Band.
An announcement was also
made for the operetta H.M.S.
Presbyterian Circle One Met Tuesday

Circle No. 1 of the First
Presbyterian Church held their
monthly meeting Tuesday
morning at the home of Mrs.
Hattie McDonald with 9 mem
bers responding to roll-call.
Two visitors were welcomed to
the meeting, Mrs. Aycock and
little Miss Leila Hudson.
The hostess served refresh
ments during a 20 minute so
cial period prior to the meet
ing.

man, opened the meeting with
prayer after which Mrs. Lee
Stephenson, Moderator, pre
sented the Bible study “I Hold
You In My Heart” in a well

Miss Betty Sockwell, bride
elect, was honored on Friday
evening, October 21 with a
miscellanous shower given by
Mrs. Okanus McCart and Mrs.
Sara Ruth Townley at the Sar
dis Educational Building near
Oxford.
The building was attractive
ly decorated with various fall
flowers. The gift table, where
the beautifully wrapped pack
ages were placed, was center-

held a single lavender carna

For traveling the bride se
lected a royal blue wool fash
ioned in princess lines with
which she wore matching ac
cessories and a white carna
tion corsage. The couple are
making their home on Jack
son Highway, Route 3, Cov
ington.
Pinafore to be given by the
Ficquett School music depart
ment for the benefit of a new
piano. The club voted to con
tribute fifty dollars to the pi
ano fund.
Miss Pat McGuire, soloist for
the evening, was unable to
present a personal performance
due to some dental difficulties,
but the guests thoroughly en
joyed a tape recording of her
entire graduation recital. After
the program Miss McGuire and
her mother joined the other
club members in a delightful
social hour.

that each member give this
matter some thought and re
port back at the next meeting.

the meeting with prayer.

Prospect MYF
Takes Hay Ride
To Stone Mtn.
The Prospect MYF held a
hayride Saturday night, Octo
ber 29. We went to Stone
Mountain on a large truck fill
ed with hay. When we reached
the mountain we all climbed to
the top. After our long climb
we returned to the home of
Mr. and Mrs. Alton Jolley,
counselors, and had refresh
ments. The MYF would like to
thank Mr. and Mrs. Cecil
Thompson for furnishing their
truck and acting as our cha
perones. We would also like
to thank Mr. and Mrs. Jolley
for the wonderful refreshments.
The MYF has not devoted
all their time to having socials.

Miss Lazenby is a 1960 grad
uate of Newton County High
School and is presently em
ployed by the Fulton National
Bank in Atlanta.
Mr. Parnell is a 1959 grad
uate of Newton County High
School, completed one year at
Piedmont College, and is now
employed by the Bibb Manu
facturing Company in Porter
dale.
The wedding will take place
on Saturday, December 10 at
the Mansfield Baptist Church.

several members of our church
and read scripture and had
prayer with them. The mem
bers who went on the visitation
took turns in reading the
scripture and each member,
along with the pastor, Rev. Carl
Standard, joined in with sen
tence prayers at each home.
The MYF would like to take
time out and say to the mem
ber of the church who are not
able to come, that you are not
forgotten. You are always re
membered in the prayers of
the MYF and the church.
The MYF would like to send
out a cordial invitation to all
community who do not attend

Porter Junior Girl Reserves met
on Monday afternoon, October
24, immediately after school in
the music room. Sherrill
Crowell, our President, called
the meeting to order. Carlyn
Maloy read the minutes of the
last meeting at which our of
ficers were elected and called
the roll.
Anita Walden gave our trea
surer’s report.
Katrina Stone explained our
Points System to the seventh
grade members and to the
eighth grade ones who were
not members last year. Katrina
is going to make a chart for
our Girl reserves room so that
