North Covington WSCS Celebrated
Yule Season With Dinner Tuesday
The North Covington Woman’s
Society of Christian Service cele
brated the Christmas season
Tuesday night with a turkey
dinner served at the church. The
table was given a festive appear
ance by the arrangements of holly
and candles. Each member in
vited her husband.

The monthly meeting of Cir
cle 5, met at the home of Mrs.
A. R. Hooten, on December 6.
There were nine members and
two visitors present. The meet
ing was opened with prayer by
one of our visitors, Miss Maud
King.

Bible Study, “Living in Christ”,
“Made Confident in the Lord”,
as found in Philippians 1:12-

November 30. The meeting was
called to order by the president,

Party Monday At
Campbell Home
On Monday, December 19, at
eight P.M., there will be a
party at the home of Mrs. R.
P. Campbell, 205 Davis Street,
Covington, for members of the
Newton Community Theatre.
A short business meeting will
precede the entertainment and
serving of refreshments. A re
port on the benefit performan
ce, “A Bull in a China Shop”,
by the Theatre group for the
Newton Band will be given.
All members and all those
interested in theatre are in
vited to attend the party on
December 19, at 1 o’clock in
the evening.
GIRL SCOUT
NEWS
Troop 1062
The Girl Scouts of Troop
1062 enjoyed thoroughly mak
ing gifts for our mothers. We
sang Christmas carols and had
a very nice time. Our troop
will not have its regular meet
ing Monday. Instead we will
meet with other Girl Scout
Troops on the square at 4
O’clock for our annual Christ
mas Carol Service, and our
Christmas party.

La Befana is a kind of Santa
Claus to Italian children. She
makes her rounds twelve days
after Christmas. According to
legend, Befana lived on the
road the wise men traveled
when they carried gifts to the
Christ child. A shepherd who
had been in Bethlehem stopped
by a few days later and urged
her to go see the Babe in the
manager, but Befana was so
busy with her household chores
and loading her shoulder bag
