afternoon with 14 members
present.
Mrs. C. D. Ramsey, Circle

meeting. Mrs. John Bob Wea
ver gave the treasurer’s report.
Mrs. Ben Banks gave the re
port from the Sunshine com
mittee.
Miss Lucy Banks, devotional
chairman, asked that we select
a prayer partner for this year.
She also pointed out the many
things for which we are asked
to pray. She closed her talk

odist Church met January 12

with 15 members present.
The meeting was called to

Christened Sunday
Reid Memorial Presbyterian
Church in Augusta was the
scene on Sunday at the morn
ing worship service, of the
christening of Leroy Hampton
Simkins, 111, nine months old
son of Mr. and Mrs. L. H.
Simkins, Jr. The Rev. Dr.
Charles Gibboney officiated in
the sacred rites.
Little Hampton wore a white
suit, with minute tucks in the
batiste shirt, which had a Peter
Pan collar edged with lace.
Among those present for the
occasion in addition to the par
ents, were the baby’s paternal
grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. L.
H. Simkins, and Mr. and Mrs.
Nat S. Turner, his maternal
grandparents.

Circle Met Tuesday
Home of Mrs King
The Maggie Hull Circle of
Zion Baptist Church met at the
home of Mrs. Clyde King on
Tuesday, January 3, with the
meeting being opened with
prayer by Mrs. W. S. Freeman.
Mrs. Jim Pennington, chair
man, presided during the busi
ness session. Roll call by Mrs.
Herman McCollough, secretary,
showed 12 members present
with two Sunbeam members
present. As a community mis
sions project it was decided to
visit the sick and shut-ins as
well as the unchurched during
the month of January.
Mrs. Dewey Mitchell was in
charge of the program for the
afternoon, taken from the Roy
al Service. Assisting her in
presenting the interesting pro
gram on “Alcohol and Nar
cotics Education”, was Mrs. Jim
Pennington. The program topic
for the month was “Facing the
Alcohol Problem” with the mis
sion study, “The Dreamer
Cometh”. Devotional thoughts
were taken from Matthew
•5:27-29; Romans 13:12-14 13:23
and First Corinthians 5:11, 6:9-
10. The meeting was closed
with prayer by Mrs. Fred Dil
lard, president.
During the social hour the
hostess, assisted by Mrs. Stew
art Hull, served a delicious
sweet course with coffee and
cold drinks.

their regular monthly meeting
Monday night, January 9, at
the home of Mrs. Edgar Calla
way.
President, Marie Alexander,
opened the meeting with pray
er followed by the group sing
ing the class song, “Take My
Life”. The minutes of the last
meeting were read and ap
proved and the treasurer’s re
port was given.
The devotional for the even
ing was brought by Mrs. Her
man Adams, using as her
theme, “God Speaks Through
His Word”. The meeting was
closed with prayer by Mrs.
Herbert Lott.
Delicious refreshments were
served by the hostess.

Met Tuesday At Community House
The Almon Home Demon
stration Club met at the Com
munity House on Tuesday af
ternoon, January 10 for their
regular monthly meeting. The
hostesses for the afternoon were
Mrs. C. H. Berry Sr. and Mrs.
C. H. Berry Jr.
The devotional was conduct
ed by Mrs. Berry Sr. The min
utes of the December meeting
were read by the secretary with
ten members answering the
roll call.
The treasurer gave her re
port, a fine report for the be
ginning of a new year.
Old business was discussed.
Part of the new business was
the dress revue to be held Feb
ruary 3. The hostesses for the
coming year were appointed.

Baptist Church Members, Sunday

noon, January 22nd, from three
until five o’clock. All members
of the church are cordially in

including Mrs. Olin Costley,

B. Thompson, Alvin Rape, La
