Patrol Official
The January meeting of the
Mansfield Elementary School
PTA was held recently in the
school cafetorium. The meet
ing was called to order by the
president, Mrs. Harvey Kitch
! ens, who extended a cordial
welcome to all present and
i read an inspirational, “Resolu
tions for the New Year”.
The December minutes were
' read and approved and trea
surer’s report showed a bal
ance of $256.64. The executive
comm ill e e recommendations
were accepted. Mrs. Kitchens
announced the PTA will serve
the annual Sealtest dinner in
February. The eighth grade
was winner of the grade vote.
Mrs. Melba Spears introduced
Sgt. Polk of Griffin, head of
the district educational depart
ment of the State Patrol, guest
speaker for the meeting. Sgt.
Polk gave a very interesting
and educational talk on safety
problems. He gave same sur
prising statistics concerning
traffic accidents, their chief
causes and some ways that we
may help prevent them. A
। question and answer period fol
lowed, during which Sgt. Polk
answered questions by the
group. Mrs. Kitchens thanked
the safety committee and Sgt.
Polk for the enlightening pro
gram.
The next meeting will be
held February 8.
Wheeler Enlists
In The Navy
John I. Wheeler, eon of Mr.
and Mrs. Ira Lee Wheeler,
Route 1, Covington, has enlist
. ed in the United States Navy,
through the Navy Recruiting
Station, Decatur.
Wheeler was discharged from
the U. S. Air Force in Decem
■ ber and has signed a 4-year
j enlistment with the Navy.
He is married to the former
Janey Yancey of Porterdale.
They have one child.
