New Law Sought
To Stop Deadly
Car Race Game
Efforts are being made at
this session of the Legislature
to break up the deadly game-of
drag racing. And, under a pend- i
ing House bill, those caught
participating would be in ser
ious trouble.
The bill, introduced by Rep. j
Thomas I. Sangster of Dooly
County, has teeth in it. It
would prohibit anyone from
participating “in any manner
whatsoever” in a drag race on
a public road. The rigid mea
sure provides felony offenses !
and lifetime revocation of dri
vers’ licenses.
Anyone who is found guilty
or who pleads guilty or nolo
contendre (no contest) to a
charge of driving in a drag
race would be sentenced to a
term of two- to-five years in
prison. The offense could not
be reduced to a misdemeanor
by the court or the jury.
Passengers in racing vehicles,
often guilty of “egging” the
drivers on, would be guilty of
a misdemeanor on the first of
fense. Any subsequent convic
; tion would be a felony carrying
a two-to-five sentence. Also
the bill would make it a mis
demeanor offense for anyone
। "to aid or assist in any manner
i whatsoever” in a contest or
test of speed on a public road.
During a six - month per- |
j iod last year there were eleven
documented drag race deaths on
I Georgia roads. Public safety
■ officials estimated at least nine
; others were killed in drag race
■ accidents where available evi- !
dence could not postively do
cument the cause. Eight of the j
eleven documented cases of fa
talities involved innocent par
ties, records show.
friends are wishing him a speedy

Monday afternoon.
The lifespan of a dollar bill I
, is about 13 months, and the
average, while a 10-dollar bill!
I lasts four years. j
