Friday marked a delightful
afternoon of bridge for mem
bers of Mrs. John Bob Weaver’s
club, when she was their hos
tess at a dessert-bridge, at her
home of Lee Street.
The attractive setting was
enhanced by interesting dried
arrangements; colorful Afri
can violets, and kfxuriant
green potted plants.

to her for a speedy recovery at
Georgia Baptist Hospital in 1
Atlanta where she was taken
last Thursday after having
been a patient at Newton
County Hospital sinee her
automobile accident recently.
It is hoped she will soon be
able to return home much im
proved

in attending the funeral of his
grandmother, Mrs. W. S. Hay
in boiling Springs, S. C. on
Saturday. Friends are extend
ing sympathy to Mr. and Mrs.
Hay in the loss of their grand
mother, whose passing brings
regret to a wide circle of New
ton County friends.

Miss Thomas is a sophomore
at Newton County High School.
Mr. Carr is presently employ

ducts Company, Conyers, Ga.
The wedding is planned for
June 10th.

Met On Monday
The Newton-Rockdale Sub-Dis
trict held its monthly meeting at
Salem Methodist Church on Feb
ruary 6.
The meeting was opened by
Tommy Wiley. The roll was called
and minutes were read of the last
meeting. The offering was then
taken.
Faye Holmes had the devotional
and Jane Bowen was in charge
of the program.
The meeting was adjourned with
the M. Y. F. Benediction. Refresh
ments were enjoyed by everyone
present.

At Oxford
Mr. and Mrs. Melton Thomas
of Talladega, Alabama, an
nounce the marriage of their
daughter, Peggy Joyce Thomas,
to Joe Brown Thomas, son of
Mrs. G. T. Ellington of Oxford
The wedding took place on
January 20 at Rev. James’ home
in Oxford.
They are presently making
their home at 302 Monticello
St., Covington.

Visits Atlanta
The Senior M Y F of the
Lovejoy Church and their dates
enjoyed a gala evening in At
lanta Saturday night. They had
a wonderful meal at Johnny
Reb’s and then attended a mo
vie.
The members of the group
were: Sandra Smith, Nip Fin
ley, Noami Smith, Larry Wil
son, Janelle Wood. Dave Smith,
Myrna Walters, Billy McCart,
Eugenia McCart, and Richard
Clifton. The group was accom
panied by their counselors Ma
rie and Lanier Cowan.

TROOP 1066
Girl Scout Troop 1066 met
February 6 with eight girls
present and one visitor.
The business meeting was
held and Karen Johnson serv
ed refreshments. Mrs. Wihiams
reviewed some badge require
ments and checked some book
lets. Games were played. The
meeting was adjourned with
a prayer.

Patrol 1063
The meeting on February 2
was called to order by the
president, Qheryl Smith. The
minutes were called for and
old business and new business
was discussed.
Each patrol leaders checked
their dues and badge require
ments. Their requirements for
Feb 2, was numbers 2,4, 10
and 11 in cook and number 1
in seamstress.
Mrs. Smith asked for several
to give their menu that they
had cooked for themselves. We
selected two girls from each
patrol to be in the flag cere
mony for February 15. They
are Brenda Penn, Jane Hack
ney, Susan Stubbs, Cherryl
Hagood, Beverly Hinton and
Lanette Lott.
We voted to buy bulbs to
put out in front of the Scott
Lodge for our requirement
number 4 in homemaking.
Our assignment next week
February 9 is make a booklet
for homemaker, bring material
to make a dress for a doll.
Patrol number 2 made cocoa
with whole milk for our re
freshments for the day. It was
very good. The meeting was
closed with a friendship cir
cle. There was two girls ab
sent. They were Margueritte
Allgood and Ginger Galt.

The three dens of the Cov
ington Mill Cub Scouts met
Saturday night for their an
nual Blue and Gold Banquet,
we were glad to see such a large
number present for this oc
sasion. We want to thank
everyone who had a part in
making this banquet possible.
We also want to thank Mr.
Hutchinson for bringing h i s
projector and screen and
showing us some film.
Everyone had an enjoyable
time.

Scout News, Troop No. 207
PORTERDALE — On Mon
day night, February 6, 1961,
the Boy Scouts had their meet
ing. Plans were made for the
week-end. On Friday after
noon, the Scouts will meet at
the field and set up camp. The
boys will only stay a little
while and then go home. Satur
day, we will go back to spend
the day working on advance
ment.
The tents will be left up un
til Monday, February 13.
Monday, the Scouts received
their 1961 Registration Cards.
Everyone thought they were
nice.
