Mesdames Ogletree, Mutimer Were
Hostesses To Hays District HD Meeting
The Hays District Home
Demonstration Club met Feb
ruary 1 at the club house in
Starrsville.
Mrs. Rosa Lee Ogletree and
Mrs. G. H. Mutimer were
joint hostesses for the meeting.
The president. Mrs. W. L.
Barber, called the meeting to
order and ’ed the devotional.
Mrs. Barber selected “Love”
as the topic for her devotional
which she followed with pray
er.
Roll call and minutes of the
January meeting were given
by the secretary. Eighteen
homemakers answered to roll
call. Mrs. Russell was a wel
comed visitor.
The treasurer, Mrs. J. M.
Aiken, gave the yearly report
for 1960 after which she re
ported $7.90 dues for the af
ternoon.
During the business session
it was voted to give $25 to the
4-H Club to help in their work.
The Dress Revue was an
nounced for Friday at t h e
American Legion Home. The
homemakers were urged to at
tend.
Application forms for mem
bership in the Newton County
Hospital Auxiliary were passed

Mrs. Hazel B. Malone gave
a demonstration on washing
and pressing woolen garments.
At this time, Mrs. J. H. An
derson, clothing chairman, took
charge of the meeting and
conducted the annual dress
revue.
Eight homemakers modeled
dresses with Mrs. Fred Walton
winning first place. Three
aprons were modeled. Mrs. D.
B. Dixon displayed a beauti
ful needlepoint picture.
During the social hour, the
hostesses passed out paper
bags with all the materials
needed to make a spring hat.
Mrs. J. H. Anderson’s hat was
selected the winner.
At the close of the meeting,
Mrs. Ogletree and Mrs. Mu
timer served a delicious plate
consisting of chicken salad,
crackers, cup cakes and Cokes.
The Valentine motif was
carried out in games and re
freshments.

Nelson Allen Is Announced Today
Mr. and Mrs. Jake T. Hooten
announce the engagement of
their daughter, Jakequlyn Tri
na Hooten, to Ernest Nelson
Allen, son of Mr. and Mrs.
Ernest W. Allen.
The bride-elect is a gradu
ate of Newton County High
School where she was active in
various organizations and a
cheerleader for four years.
Miss Hooten attended Tift Col
lege and is now in training to
be a dental hygienist and
working in the office of Dr. E.
L. Smith, dentist.
Mr. Allen is a graduate of
Newton County High School
and the University of Georgia,
Athens, where he received his
A.B. Degree in Economics. He
is a member of Pi Kappa Al
pha Fraternity. At present he
is on a tour of duty with the
Army Reserves and is station
ed at Fort Knox, Kentucky.

daughter, Miss Alice Kertrenia
Plunkett to Paul A. Howard,
son of Mr. and Mrs. C. B.
Howard of Christmas, Florida.
Miss Plunkett is the daugh
ter of Eli A. Plunkett of Con
yers.
Miss Plunkett is a 1958 grad
uate of Rockdale County High
School and is presently em
ployed by Southern Bell Tele
phone and Telegraph Co. in
Covington.
Mr. Howard is a 1957 grad
uate of Edgewater High School
in Orlando, Florida, and is now
serving in the armed forces
in Clinton, Oklahoma.
The wedding is planned for
March.
Mrs. Claude Jordan Is Bridge Hostess
To Club Members And Guests, Tuesday
The country home of the i
Claude Jordans was the scene
of an enjoyable afternoon of
bridge, when Mrs. Jordan en
tertained members of her club
and other guests, on Tuesday
afternoon.
Potted green plants were
used in contributing floral in
terest in the living room. The
dining table featured a cen
terpiece of holly foliage in a
green ceramic container.

high score for club members,

Presbyterian Church met at
the home of Mrs. B. L. Johnson
on Monday, February 6, with
eleven members and four vis
itors present.
Mrs. J. 0. Hunt, Chairman,
opened the meeting with pray
er. Sixty-nine visits were re
ported by the members.
The Chairman reminded the
circle of the following meet

meeting with Mrs. Belaire, re
viewing the World Mission

Mr. and Mrs. H. Grady Jones
entertained Tuesday evening
with a seated dinner at their
home. The dining room table
from which the delicious meal
was served was overlaid with
a white linen cloth and cen
tered with an arrangement of
greenery and red Valentine
hearts flanked by red burning
tapers. Mrs. Charles Ellis as
sisted in entertaining the guests
with the games and contests
following the meal.

Os Dessert-Bridge, Saturday Afternoon
Mrs. C. D. Ramsey was the
gracious hostess at her home
on Floyd Street Saturday after
noon when she entertained a
group of friends at a dessert
bridge.
Stock arranged in a large
gold and white jardiniere
formed the focal point in the
living room. A beautiful fruit
arrangement graced the dining
room table. Green plants and
a bowl of orange chrysanthe
mums brightened the den.
First Baptist Church WMS Speaker Was

The W.M.S. of the First Bap
tist Church met Thursday,
February 2 in the Educational
Building.
A delicious covered dish din
ner was served by the social
committee.
Rev. E. A. Callaway led the
opening prayer.
After the meal, the meeting
was called to order with the
repeating of the watchwords.
“I Love Thv Kingdom, Lord”
was sung by 'he grouo follow
ed with prayer by Mrs. Frank
Burney.
During a brief business ses
sion, the minutes were read
and approved. Mission study
chairman announced the mis
sion book “Dreamer Cometh”
will be taught February 21 at
7:30 p.m. at the home of Mrs.
C. C. King. The teachers for
the book will be Miss Marie
Alexander and Miss Carolyn
Campbell. It was announced
that the W. M. U. of the Rock
dale Baptist Church is con
ducting a leadership course on
February 13 from 9 a m. to 2
p.m. and February 20 from
9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Those attend
ing are asked to bring a “sack
lunch” and drinks will be pro-

Reece was high scorer, Mrs.

You Make?”
