A report was given on Com
munity Missions. Plans were
made to visit a needy family
Saturday evening. The trea
surer’s report was given and
was most gratifying. Mrs.
Barnes reported buying some
books for the Y. W. A. study
course which our Circle paid
for. The minutes were read and
approved. Miss Polson reported
that Mrs. June Head would
teach our study course book
“The Dreamer Cometh” at the
church Saturday evening, Feb
ruary 18 from 2:30 til 5:30.
Everyone is to take a covered
dish.
Miss Lottie Polson closed the
meeting with prayer after
which the hostess served de
licious cake with whipped
cream and coffee and Cokes.
Mrs. Parker’s little grand
daughter, Penny, helped serve
the refreshments.

March 3 —The Rev. and Mrs.
James Montgomery, two of the
best loved Presbyterian mis
sionaries to the Chinese peo
ple, will be the speakers at
“ a spend - the - day” at the
church, at 10 A.M. They served
fortytwo years in China and
Taiwan.
They were retired last July
and now live in Decatur, Ga.
Both of them will speak from
a background of knowledge of
the Chinese which few Amer
icans can equal. Few people
have ever been honored by the
Chinese as have Dr. and Mrs.
Montgomery. When they left
Taiwan recently, hundreds of
Chinese were at the airport to
see them off, and Christians all
over the island joined in spe
cial prayers of thinksgiving
for the ministry which they
had among them.

Mrs. W. S. Cook, Jr. was top

consolation prize recipient.
At the conclusion of the
games, a delicious salad course
was served with coffee, by the

What gladsome thing it is to
have the “young in years” as
well as the “young in heart”
to choose ours as the com
munity in which they wish to
live! The visions of our young
people give impetus to our
dreams, of life as it should be
lived, which are sometimes
dimmed by the press of duties.
Their faith in themselves and
the future inspire us toward
the materialization of these
dreams; and the goal of leav
| ing the world a little better
' than we found it.
This week, we are happy to
present Miss Richie Duck
worth, who has recently come
from Charleston, S. C. to join
Newton High School Faculty.
Miss Duckworth is a native
of Norwood. She received her
degree in Physical Education at
G. S. C. W. She is an avid
sports fan, both as a partici
pant and spectator; and enjoys
music and horseback riding.
J She is making her home at
| the Teachers’ Cottage in Por
terdale; and Methodists will be
glad to know that she is a mem
ber of their denomination.

। If there is a little extra
warmth in the ring of this
week’s “Welcome Neighbor",
it stems from the return of
some of Newton County’s own,
who have followed their hearts
and turned their footsteps
homeward.
Mr. and Mrs. William S.
Brock, both Covington natives,
have recently returned from
Ft. Eustis, Va., where Mr.
Brock was stationed with the
U. S. Army. He is currently
with the Service in Korea, and
Mrs. Brock and their three
year old son, Gregory are mak
ing their home at 610 Baxter
Street.
Mrs. Brock shares her hus-
I band’s enthusiasm for fishing,
and also enjoys sewing and
spectator sports.
They are being welcomed
back into the congregation of
Calvary Baptist Church where
their membership is.
James C. Dial, is also a “re
-1 turnee”, but Mrs. Dial is a
native of Rome, from where
they have recently moved to
make their home at 205 Col
lege Ave.
Mr. Dial, a member of Mea
dors Freight Line personnel, is
a hunting enthusiast.
In addition to homemaking,
