Meeting Monday
PORTERDALE — Fifth and
sixth grade girls of the Ethel
Belcher Girl Reserves met in
Miss Pauline Hardman’s Rohm
on Monday afternoon, Febru
ary 20, because of the rainy
weather. The secretary han
dled our attendance record.
Miss Trippe’s room had the
program. Joyce Aaron read the
scripture from Psalm 67.
Brenda Harper and Becky
Fisher led in prayer. Jane Ca
son led us in singing “Ameri
ca”. Judy Clay read a story.
Janice Huckaby read a story
called a “Splendid Elf”. Jan
Clegg read a poem; Jan Cason
led us “Jesus Loves Me”.
The minutes were read by
Gayle Allen and were approv
ed.
We had our benediction and
were dismissed.

a story by Regina Thompson.
This concluded the program.
The members filled out slips
for points to be credited by
Katrina Stone.
We were dismissed with our

HD Club Met
West Newton Home Demon
stration Club held its regular
meeting Friday. February 10
at the home of Mrs. Floyd
George Jr. with Mrs. Grover
King as co-hostess.
The meeting was called to
order by Mrs. Roy Kirkus,
president. The club creed was
read and the members repeated
the Lord’s Prayer. The roll
was called with fourteen mem
bers present. The Club wel
comed a new member, Mrs.
George Buss.
The Booth for the Newton
County Hospital Auxiliary was
discussed and after the busi
ness session the meeting was
turned over to Mrs. Hazel Ma
lone. She gave an interesting
talk on ironing and pressing.
She also gave tips on the cars
of steam irons.
Bingo was played and prizes
awarded the winners.
Mrs. George and Mrs. King
served lovely decorated sand
wiches, pickles, potato chips,
cake squares and punch.
