Dessert Bridge At Avery Home Among
Interesting Current Social Events
The home of the Terry
Averys on Pinecrest Drive, was
the scene of one of the week’s
interesting social events, when
Mrs. Avery entertained mem
bers of her club at a dessert
bridge.
An all green arrangement of
spring foliage, in a green pot
tery container, enhanced the
attractive living room. Pink
roses in a matching ceramic
container were used effective
ly as the dining table's center
piece.

Hostess To Club Members On Friday
The home of the Leon Cohens
was the scene of an interesting
contribution to the social scene,
when Mrs. Cohen entertained
a group of local friends of her
houseguest, Mrs. Philip Cohen
of Philadelphia, Penn., at a des
sert-coffee on Friday after
noon.
Arrangements of early flow
ering shrubs and blossoms ac
centuated a charming prelude
to spring atmosphere in the at
tractive setting. The dining ta
ble featured a eenterpiece of
yellow daffodils and forsythia,
interspersed with sprays of
yellow jasmine, in a crystal
bowl.
Bridge was enjoyed by the
group following a tasty sweet

A Pound Party for the
Youths of Oxford will be held
Friday night, March 10 at 7:30.
All youths in Oxford, ages 6
through 16 are invited to
come BRING A POUND OF
FOOD.
There will be games, danc
ing and plenty of fun for all
who come. Prizes and plenty of
supervised entertainment. This
is a very important meeting.

Monday; Discussed Events of Easter
The WSCS of the Covington First i
Methodist Church met on Monday.
March 6 at the church with Mrs..
H. G. Smith, president presiding.
Reports were heard from the i
various officers and chairmen.
The secretary of spiritual life,
Mrs. Jack Meadors, stated that on
Thursday and Friday prior to
Easter Sunday there will be a ser
vice at the church.
The president stated that the
North Georgia Conference Annual
Meeting is to be held April 18-20 at
Thomaston. Bishop John Owen
Smith will be a speaker as will
the District President, Mrs Mar
garet Higgins.
The District, President sent a
notice regarding the “Day Apart” ।
service to be held on March 29 at
10 a.m. in Eatonton.
The president appointed a nomi- :
nating committee composed of the
following members: Mrs. Homer
Sharp. Mrs. T. U. Smith and
Mrs. Hiram Ellis.
With the conclusion of the busi
ness. the program was begun with
a devotional given by Mrs. Hiram
Ellis. The scripture was from
Psalins 113. Mrs. Ellis devoted
the time to thoughts on Lent,
stating that the Lenten Season is a
season of preparation for proper

tune”, a long rang, land-based

stressing the meaning of the Cross
to each individual. She pointed
out that Easter is history’s most
complete revelation of God s love
for man, and that the risen Christ
should be put into Easter, for that

program and the meeting with a
poem by Elizabeth Cheney follow
