Robert Arnolds Hosts At Dinner Party

dinner party on Tuesday even
ing, at which the Robert Ar
nolds were hosts at their home
on Monticello St.

A morning coffee on Friday,

Pratt, was among current pre
nuptial parties at which Miss
Mary Thacker, bride - elect,
continues to be feted. Mrs.
Warren Kirkland was Mrs.
Pratt’s co-hostess for the de
lightful occasion.
White and shades of pink
predominated in the setting’s
color scheme. An artistic ar
rangement of pink camellias
lent interest in the reception
hall, where guests were greet
ed. Receiving with the hostess
es and honoree were Mrs.
Leon Cohen, mother of t h e
groom-to-be, and her house
guest, Mrs. Philip Cohen of
Philadelphia.
White narcissi were used ef
fectively in the den; and ar
rangements of pink and white
camellias, and flowering quince
in a usabata arangement lent
floral interests in the living
room.
Miss Linda Hitchcock Was Honored
At Lovely Bridal Shower, Friday
Miss Linda Hitchcock, whose
marriage to Richard Pace will
take place on March 19 at the
Mansfield Methodist Church,
was the central figure on Fri
day night, March 3 at a love
ly bridal shower given in her
honor by Mrs. Larry Parnell
and Miss Bonnie Banks at the
home of Mrs. Julius Lazenby.
Thirty-two guests assembled
in the spacious living room and
adjoining dining room, where
the table, overlaid with white
damask was centered with a
lovely arrangement of pink
roses flanked by silver candle
holders with burning white ta
pers.
Mrs. Parnell and Miss Banks
led the group in several ap
propriate wedding contests and
in Bride Bingo before the
bride-to-be opened the many
beautifully wrapped gifts.
Phillip Cohen and Fiancee Honored At
Saturday Evening Supper Party

and his fiancee. Miss Mary

evening at which Mr. and Mrs.
James Pound and Mr. and Mrs.
Walker Campbell were joint
hosts at Lang’s on Jackson
Lake.
Jamaica, where the couple
plan to spend their honeymoon,
was cleverly keynoted in the
occasion’s decorative features.
Jamaica hats, travel brochures
and maps heralded the scenic
beauty of the island, at wall
space vantage points.

The Heard Mixon Home De- 1
monstration Club met at the
Community Club House on
March 2 with 14 present.
Mrs, Billy Aiken, President,
called the meeting to order.
She introduced Mrs James
Hardman, Newton County
Public Health Nurse.
The Home Demonstration
Creed was read in unison.
Mrs. E. M. McCart gave the
devotional. She read a very in
teresting article on worry
written by Dr. Charles Allen.
The roll was called and the
minutes read and approved.
We had so much fun at the
February meeting making tier
trays that it was decided we
would like to make some more
and we will do so when we get
the rods.
Presbyterian
Circle Two
Met Tuesday
Circle Number 2, of the Wo
men of The First Presbyterian
Church met Tuesday morning,
March 7 at the home of Mrs.
John Prescott.
The chairman, Mrs. Donald
Stephenson opened the meet
ing with prayer, after which the
roll was called and minutes of
the February meeting were
read. Old and new business was
discussed, and it was voted that

with an exquisite imported,
embroidered cloth, held a cen
terpiece of pink carnations and
snapdragons in a green Venetian
glass epergne. Silver services
were used at each end of the
table, from which coffee was
alternately poured by Mes
dames Harry Faulkner, Walk
er Campbell, John Fuller and
James Pound. Silver trays of
canapes, dainty sandwiches,
topped with nuptial designs,
white embossed petits fours
with spun sugar valley lilies;
and silver compotes of wedding
motif mints and toasted nuts
completed the appointments.
Miss Thacker, who wore a
luna blue sheath, with match
ing bolera, was presented with
a gift in china by the hostesses.
Mrs. Milton McLaney assist
ed in entertaining the some
ninety guest invited to call be
tween the hours of ten and
twelve.
The color scheme of pink,
green and white was effective
ly carried out in the refresh
ments. The guests were served
dainty white iced cakes deco
rated with pink and green
wedding bells and lilies-of
the-valley, cheese straws, nuts
and assorted party sandwiches
in the shape of bells, rings,
hearts and stars, with coffee.
The plates had silver wedding
bells on them and held pink
mint cups with party mints
in pink, green and white. The
napkins also had silver wed
ding bells on them.
Miss Hitchcock, a lovely
brunette, wore for this occa
sion a sheath model of sheer
wool, in red.
Mrs. Julius Lazenby and
Mrs. Owen Banks, mothers of
the hostesses, assisted in en
tertaining.

Mrs. Billy Aiken suggested
that we buy some cooking uten
sils for the Club House and a
committee was appointed to do
so.
We are very proud of Mrs.
E. M. McCart for winning first
prize in the tailored, street or
church dress group and second
prize for the county in t h e
dress revue.
Mrs. Hardman gave a very
interesting talk on safety or
accident prevention which was
enjoyed by all.
Mrs. Roy Aiken was hostess.
Delicious refreshments were
served during the social hour.
We missed Mrs. Malone and
hope she will be with us next
month.

Figures At Wednesday Dinner Party
Miss Mary Thacker and her
fiance, Philip Cohen, were cen
tral figures at a delightful
dinner party tendered in their
honor on Wednesday evening,
by Miss Lucile Crabtree at Ha
good Hall, on Emory at Ox
ford Campus.
The intriguing centerpiece of
white overlaid table, consisted
of a pink bird cage, entwined
with peach blossoms, in which
were perched blue parakeets,
with pink camellias forming
its base arrangement. Three
branched silver candelabra,
garnished with camellia blos
soms which were also used
with kissing doves to form the
base arrangement, held glow
ing pink tapers and flanked
the central composition.
Miss Thacker wore a flattering
model in sand jersey, which
featured a mint green cummer
bund.

the delightful occasion were;

Mr. and Mrs. T. E. Cannon

Shelby Jean, to Bobby Lee
Watts, son of Mr. and Mrs.
Leslie Watts of Covington.
Miss Cannon is a graduate
of Newton County High
School and Peachtree Secre
tarial College in Atlanta, and
is now employed by the Geor
gia Department of Public
Health.
Mr. Watts attended Newton
County High School, and is em
ployed by Marcus Loeb and
Company in Covington.
The wedding will be March
31 at the Church of our Lord

February Meeting of Susie Stone Circle
The February meeting of the!
Susie B. Stone Circle of the Allen
Memorial Methodist Church was
held on Tuesday at the home of
Mrs. G. D. Lancaster.
In the absence of the Chairman,
Mrs. Cecil Allgood opened the
meeting with the reading of t h e
current collect of the Women's
Club. She then welcomed Mrs.
J. P. Sheffield as a visitor.
Eight members answered roll
call. The minutes were read and
approved after which Miss Re
becca Weldon gave the treasurers
report.

Mrs. Walter Murphy was 1 n
charge of the program. She read
the first fifteen verses from t h e
sixth chapter of Matthew, followed
by the reading of an appropriate
hymn. She then gave a most In
formative and interesting talk on
the meaning of “The Lord's Pray
er’’. The program was concluded
with prayer.
A delightful social hour was en
joyed as the hostess served cherry
tarts with whipped cream and
coffee.
