Sealers
Modern "penetrating seals
ers” are a great asset to the
wood panelier.
The Southern Pine Associa
tion suggests that wood panel
ing be initially dry and pre
shrunk; then backs and ends
should be treated with a pen
etrating sealer or other mois
ture resistant coating. This has
the effect of sealing the wood
pores and with a prepetually
dry condition assured, the ma
terial is permanent.
Penetrating sealers also can
be used as the first coat for
either a natural or “stain” fin
ish which may be applied to
the face of the lumber. Ap
plied to dry lumber, such a
finish will last indefinitely.
