her home on Floyd Street.

tape as the dining table center
piece. Red tulips in a wooden
compote effectively keynoted
the den’s decor.

monthly meeting Tuesday at I
10 a. m. at the home of Mrs.
E. L. Patrick, assisted by the ।

Tate.
Prior to the meeting, re
freshments were served during
a short social period.
Mrs. W. T. McGuire, Circle
Chairman, opened the meeting
with prayer.
The Circle Chairman intro
duced the guest speaker, E. G.
Lassiter, who presented a most
interesting Bible Study on Liv
ing in Christ “That I May
Know Him” taken from the
scripture of Philippians 3:1 -
11. The chairman thanked Mr.
Lassiter for his informative
talk and for giving his time to
the Circle.

daughter, Patricia Lee Knight,
to John Murray, son of Mr.
and Mrs. Hoke Murray of De
catur, Georgia.
Miss Knight, an honor gra
duate of Newton County High
School, is now employed as a
hostess with Capital Airlines in
Washington. D. C.
Mr. Murray is a graduate of
Thomas Jefferson High School,
Richmond, Virginia. Prior to a
two-year tour of duty with the
United States Army, Mr. Mur
ray was employed as navigae
tor by Pan American Airlines.
At present he is a pilot - en
gineer with Capital Airlines in
Pittsburgh, Pa.
The wedding will take place
Saturday evening, June 3, at
5 o’clock in the Mansfield
Methodist Church.

D. K. Hicks Sr.
then silent prayer closed by
Mrs. S. J. Morcock.
The roll was called, collec
tion taken, minutes read and
other business discussed.
The Bible Study “That I May
Know Him”, was given by
Mrs. Herbert Vining. The
monthly emphasis, “Church
Extension”, was given by Mrs.
A. A. Guritz. The meeting was
dismissed with prayer.

ior Homemaker degrees of
achievement were awarded to
Joyce Byrd, Iva Bruce and
Ann McLendon. Each was pre
sented with a homemaking
sterling key which is the sym
bol of the degree. Ann Mc-
Lendon was also presented
with her Homemaker Degree
and was presented a sterling
scroll which is the symbol for
that degree.
Steve Coggin, son of Mr. and
Mrs. Pat Coggin was present
ed a friendship bracelet. Steve
was elected chapter sweetheart
for this year.

This week we have the pri
vilege of presenting Mr. and
Mrs. L. C. Hayes, who have
recently moved from Barnes
ville, to make their home at
1013 Washington Street.
Mrs. Hayes, a Jackson native,
names homemaking, church and
club activities, and flowers
among her favorite hobbies.
Mr. Hayes, who is convalesc
ing from recent surgery, shares
some of his wife’s hobbies; but
tops the list with fishing.
The Hayes have two sons,
already Covington residents,
Carl and Thomas Hayes of
Covington Tire Service; and in
addition, have one daughter,
Mrs. Douglas Harrell, who lives
in Griffin.
The Hhyes will be welcome
additions to the Baptist Con
gregation.
Raymond Wolfe, formerly of
Atlanta, is also extended a
warm welcome this week. Mr.
Wolfe, a native of Chatham
County is making his home
with his sister and brother. Mr.
and Mrs. J. C. Grant on Floyd
St.
He is currently with the
Tote Cart Company of Chicago,
as zone manager; and lists
among his hobbies, flowers,
reading, music, and birds; and

An old-fashioned quilting
bee was held by the ladies of
the Brick Store Home Demon- 1
stration Club Wednesday,
April 26, at the historic plan- i
tation home of the Walter
Emmel’s
The ladies exercised their:
creative talents in a medium,
that is useful as well as beau
tiful. The quilt was pieced by
Mrs. Walter Emmel and quilt
ed by Sue Stanton, Mattie
Adams, Christine Dyer, Mar
gie Cline. Genia Mae Stanton,
Hazel Malone, Lottie Connor,
Vera Stanton. Leone Sherrod,
Elise Horstman and Marion
Sherrod.
At noon the ladies were
treated to a luncheon that was
their delight and their diet’s
despair.
During the afternoon while
the quilting progressed some
of the ladies worked on hos
pital bed caddies for the Mil-
1 ledgeville State Hospital.
In the business meeting Mrs.
Emmel, president of the club,
was selected as a delegate to
the State Home Demonstration
Conference to be held at Rock
Eagle June 6-9.

The Red Oak MYF held its '
monthly social Saturday night, I
April 22. A wiener roast was !
enjoyed by thirty members. We
enjoyed games of horseshoes,
badminton and ping pong.
The MYF held its regular
meeting Sunday night, April
23 at the church. After roll

ing the devotional Sunday
