Choosing Shade Trees
Homeowners in Georgia have
a wide variety of shade trees
from which to choose, says Ex
tension Forester G. D. Walker
at the University of Georgia.
Some of the most popular ones
are the willow oak, water oak,
pin oak, red maple, silver ma
ple and pecan trees. He advises
checking the growth and form
of trees to determine which
would be most adaptable or
have the characteristics desired
for a particular yard.
Weeds and Grass In Cotton
Weed control, a major con
cern of cotton farmers, should
be given special attention if
the crop is to be harvested me
chanically, says Extension Ag
ronomist Larry Torrance at the
University of Georgia. Weeds
and grasses in cotton present
problems in harvesting qual
ity cotton by machine, so it is
of utmost importance that a
good weed and grass control
program be followed, he ex
plained.
