Friday Tea Feting Mrs. Philip Cohen
One of Season's Social Highlights
Among interesting highlights
of the social calendar was the
Friday afternoon tea, at the
home of the Leon Cohens, at
which Mrs. Cohen compliment
ed Mrs. Philip Cohen, recent
bride of the Cohens’ son.
Floral arrangements and de
corative features of the attrac
tive setting accentuated pink
and white as the color scheme.
Greeting guests were Mes
dames R. O. Arnold, who wore
an arnel jersey model with
floral print in pink and laven
der; Godfrey Trammell wear
ing satin taffeta and lace in
mauve, with sequins detailing
the scallops of the lace bodice’s
scooped neckline; and Frank
Williams, attired in white,
with silk linen skirt and lace
bodice, finished with lavaliere
neckline.
In the living room where the
receiving line formed, pink and
white columbine, white iris and
pink rosebuds were combined
in Czechoslovakian, porcelain
overlaid, green glass compote.
Further keynoting the chosen
motif were pink snapdragons,
columbine, white Dutch iris and
gladiolus in a Sevres urn,
which formed the piano ar
rangement; a secretary ar
rangement of pink roses and
snapdragons in a Dresden com
pote; and pink sweetheart
roses in an antique mustard
jar, on the coffee table.
Yellow and talisman roses
in a silver bowl, reflected the
decor of the solarium.
Receiving with the hostess,
who wore a costume with Dior
pink textured silk skirt and
white lace bodice, embellished
with matching pink floral ap
pliques, and the honoree, wear
ing silk organza and lace, in
powder blue, with scallops
edging the lavaliere neckline
of the lace bodice, was Mrs.
George Leon Cohen of Atlan
ta, who wore a green and

white floral print, in arnel
jersey.
The tea table, overlaid with
a handsome imported, em
broidered linen cloth, featured
as its centerpiece a silver eper
gne holding five pink tapers,
with center arrangement of
pink snapdragons and carna
tions. interspersed with gyp
sophilia. Silver trays of open
face and other dainty sand
wiches, pastel pink, green and
white embossed petits fours,
topped with valley lilies; sil
ver services at each end of the
table; and silver compotes of
wedding motif mints, perfect
ed the attractive appointments.
Napkins with silver wedding
bells payed deference to the
nuptial motif. Pink candles
were also used in three branch
ed, silver candelabra, which
flanked the buffet’s larger sil
ver tray of party sandwiches.
Those pouring tea and cof
fee at alternate hours were:
Mrs. Wendell W. Crowe, who
wore a sequin flecked sheath
in turquoise, with scooped
neckline; Mrs. Moody Sum
mers, Sr., wearing an embroid
ered satotton sheath in cameo
pink; Mrs. S. A. Ginn, attired
in white, with full organza
skirt and cutwork embroidered
organza bodice; and Mrs. N. S.
Turner, wearing aqua, with a
linen sheath skirt and chiffon
draped empire bodice, detailed
with crystal beading and se
quins.
Two hundred and fifty
friends were invited to meet
the honoree, between the tea’s
calling hours of four until six.

Someone wisely said that we
are the greatest of spendthrifts,
if we lose or miss a single
friends by inattention. In miss
ing a friends, we not only miss
the many new interests and
thoughts he or she brings us;
we miss much spiritually. For,
surely, friends are channels
through which the Provident
Father blesses and ministers to
us. So, let us treasure the op
portunities of new friendships,
proffered us in the coming of
new families into our midst.
This week we are happy to
present the Rev. Mr. and Mrs.
John M. Lance, who have re
cently moved from Pine Lake
to make their home at 37 N.
Broad St. in Porterdale.
Mr. Lance is Porterdale Bap
tist Church’s new pastor; and
is a native of Hayesville, N. C.
He likes to spend leisure mo
ments — when he can find any
fromroutine duties — working
in the soil, growing flowers.
Mrs. Lance, with the care of
four children, finds homemak
ing her main hobby, with es
pecial emphasis on cooking —
much to the delight of h e r
family. Cake decorating is one
of her hobbies also; and she
like her husband, is a native
of Hayesville, N. C.
The lances and their child
ren, Louise 15, Linda 11, Becky
8 and John, Jr. 7, are being
extended a warm welcome in
the Baptist Church, Porterdale,
and Newton County.'

A series of interesting con- ’

presentation of the many
beautifully wrapped gifts,
which was made in the bassi

husband, when a baby.
The refreshment table, cov- i

pink satin bows accentuating
the scallops of the tiered nylon
net canopy. Plumosis fern, pink
rosebuds and gypsophilia form

bassinette. Mrs. Jack Morgan,
who wore a moss green sheath
with matching jacket, in tex

tinted salad; and Mrs. Belmont
Dennis, wearing a Dior blue

silver punch bowl. A silver tray
