Porterdale.
The bride-elect is a student
of Newton County High School
and an apprentice beautician.
Mr. Motes is a graduate of
Newton County High School
and is presently employed by
Bibb Manufacturing Co.
The marriage will be solem
nized at an early date.
Mrs. J. F. Burns Was Hostess To
Salem Church W. S. C. S. Meeting
The home of Mrs. J. F. Burns
was the scene last Wednes
day, May 10 at 4 o’clock of
the Salem Methodist Church’s
Woman’s Society of Christian
Service meeting. Ten mem
bers and one visitor, Mrs. Hen
ry Berry of Porterdale were
present.
The meeting was of double
significance since it was pledge
month, also the 1961-62 offi
cers were elected at this time.
The same slate of officers
were elected that has served
this past year, with only a few
changes. Mrs. O. E. White was
elected secretary of literature
and publications, while Mrs.
Doby White was appointed to
the office secretary of student
work.
Mrs. Hoyt Bailey will serve
as secretary of Christian so
cial relation. Mrs. Douglas
Yancey was elected to serve
as treasurer as Mrs. Doyle
Bailey had resigned. Mrs.
Bailey has served well in this
office for about thirteen years
and it was with regret that her
resignation was accepted.

The engagement of Miss Bar
bara A. Ferber to Marion Gib
son Loyd, son of Mr. and Mrs.
Boyce G. Loyd, of 8 Jackson
Road, Porterdale, Georgia, has
been announced by her mother,
Mrs. Reita B. Ferber of 5935
Larue Street, Linglestown,
Pennsylvania.
Miss Ferber, also the daugh
ter of Mr. Sebastian W. Ferber,
of Harrisburg, was graduated
from Lower Paxton High
School and is employed by
Lawrie and Green Architects,
in Harrisburg, Pa.
Her fiance, a graduate of
Newton County High School,
also attended West Georgia
College and the University of
Georgia. He is now serving in
the United States Army at
Carlisle Army War College.
An October Wedding is
planned.
Mrs. Burns, president pre
sided and opened the meeting
with the song, “God of Grace
and God of Glory”. Mrs. Hoyt
Bailey led the opening prayer.
Miss Ruth Loyd brought an
inspiring devotion, using the
96th Psalm as the scripture.
The theme of the devotion
and program was prayer, ser
vice and gifts or “Our Three
Fold Pledge”. The devotion
ended with the song ‘‘Give of
Your Best To Your Master” and
a short prayer by Miss Loyd.
Minutes of the April meet
ing were read and approved.
The roll call was answered
with Bible verses.
The president read the latest
correspondence and urged
those who could attend the
District meetings to do so.
Especially urging the officers
to attend the officers training
school at Porterdale on May
21.
Reports irom all chairmen
were called for and the year
will end with reports up to
date.
The pledge service was very
impressive when the group
gathered around an improvised
altar and pledged their pray
ers, service and gifts for the
coming conference year.
Mrs. G. W. Ramsey, program
chairman, had charge of the
program and was assisted by
Mrs. Slade Ellington, Mrs.
Doby White and Mrs. Hoyt
Bailey. Mrs. Ramsey closed the
meeting with prayer.
The hostess assisted by Miss
Ruth Loyd served delicious
cherry pie, topped with whip
ped cream and hot coffee.
Mrs. Ola H. Thacker. Miss
Irene Harvey, Mr. R. E. Thacker
and Ronnie were dinner guests on
Thursday of Mr. and Mrs. J. F.
Hearn in Decatur.

Faternity. He received his MBA
degree for The Wharton Gra
duate School of Business Ad

Meeting at Home Os Mrs. Joel Wall
The Fidelis Sunday School
Class of the First Baptist
Church met Thursday after
noon, May 18, at the home of
Mrs. Joel Wall. Mrs. S. J. Har
ris was co-hostess. The home
was beautifully decorated with
spring flowers. The opening
prayer was given by Mrs.
James Alexander with Mrs. W.
R. Nunn presiding over the
business session and thanking
the hostess for inviting the
class to her home.
Mrs. S. J. Harris gave a beau
tiful devotional using has her
scripture the 16th Psalm and
closing by reading the poem,
“My Chapel’’.
The roll was called by Mrs.
Biggers with 12 members pre
sent and one visitor answering
with Bible verses. The class
was very happy to have Mrs.
C. C. King as a visitor. The min
utes were read by the secretary

Salem Home Demonstration Club
Met Thursday At The Clubhouse
The Salem Home Demonstration
Club held its monthly meeting at
the club house on May 11 with
12 members present.
The meeting was called to order
by the president. Mrs. Douglas
Yancey, and the Club Creed was
read in unison.
Mrs. Yancey read a poem in
honor of Mother’s Day.
The devotional was given by
Mrs. Charles Ellington.
Happy Birthday was sung to
Mrs. P. B. Ellington and Mrs.
W. C. Bates.
Mrs. G. W. Ramsey gave a talk
on canning.
Six members of the Club attend
ed the Council meeting and they
were Mrs. Burns. Mrs. Ellington,
Mrs. Ramsey, Mrs. Yancey, Mrs.
Bates and Mrs. Savage.

ing at Rock Eagle.
Donations were asked of the
members for the Hospital Auxili
ary for their Country Store to be
held on July 4th.
The next meeting will be June
sth and a work shop will be held.
It was voted to contribute toward
Mrs. Aiken’s trip to the national
council meeting in Maine.
Mrs. Malone gave a demonstra
tion on Crafts and asked everyone
who had time to make caddies for
the patients at Milledgeville State
Hospital.
