BLAB SLAB
All sports fans and especially baseball addicts are sad
dened this week by the death of Ty Cobb at Emory Univer
sity Hospital in Atlanta Monday afternoon. The one fact
that stamps Ty Cobb as the greatest player of all time was
that he was the first player named to the Hall of Fame at
Cooperstown, N. Y.
The Atlanta Crackers will return home for a three-game
series with the Little Rock club starting Friday night, July
21. The Crackers are presently at Macon.
Bert Johnston, former resident of Covington and son-in-law
of Mr. and Mrs. Guy Rogers, is back in the football coaching
profession again. He will join the gridiron staff of Brown
High in Atlanta this fall. Bert is an alumnus of Wake For
rest College.
Recommended for would-be-bowlers! A “Bowing Clinic”
will be conducted each evening next week on Ed Thilenius’
Panorama of Sports, WAGA-TV at 6:30 o’clock.
THIS AND THAT!
Carl Willey of the Milwaukee Braves seems to have
trouble finishing a ball game these days. He has failed to
go the nine innings for the 22nd straight time . . . Bob Bailey,
the California boy who signed a baseball bonus contract for
$175,000 with Pittsburgh, doesn’t even own a car . . . Bob
Hunter, former Ram fullback-tackle, is now an employee
of the local MacGregor Plant . . .
