PORTERDALE — The Laura
Thompson Circle of the WMS
of the Porterdale Baptist
Church met on Monday, July
3. at the home of Mrs. Ethel
Dawkins. Mrs. Archie Patter
hon led in prayer.
Mrs. Bessie Criswell wel
comed the eleven ladies and
two visitors. The Watchword
was repeated in unison.
Minutes were read and ap
proved.
Community Missions for the
previous month was reported.
P! ns were directed for July.
The treasurer gave an ex
cellent report, and a love of
fering was received for the
circle’s activities.
The chairman of literature
urged all ladies to renew their
subscriptions to the Royal
Service magazine.

Miss Sandra Smith, who will
become the bride of Billy Fin
ley on August 6, was honored
by a miscellaneous shower
given by the ladies of Lovejoy
Church on Friday evening,
July 14.
The guests assembled in the
Church Annex and were greet
ed at the door by Mrs. C. H.
Pennington and Mrs. Wilbur
Johnson. The gift table, over
laid in white, was the central
focal point. Several beautiful
floral arrangements were plac
ed at advantage points through
out the spacious room.
The guests were seated in a
circular fashion and were led
in a game of Bridal Bouquet
by Mrs. Johnny Hall, prior to
the opening of the many lovely
and useful gifts by the honoree.
The refreshment table was
overlaid with a beautiful cut

Street was the setting for a
lingerie shower honoring bride
elect Miss Sandra Smith on
Friday evening, July 7. Miss
Smith will become the bride of
Billy Finley on August 6.
The guests were assembled
in the spacious living room
which had as its central toy al
point the punch table which
was overlaid with a beautiful
pink linen tablecloth and the
I punch bowl covered with a
white linen tablecloth. This ta
ble’s only decoration was a sin
gle yellow rose in a cut glass
j vase. The gift table was also
: overlaid in pink and on it was
a minature bride doll. Several

Mrs. Wade P. Harding, Jr., en
tertained on July 18 with Open
House at their home on North
Highland Avenue. Friends were
invited to call between the
hours of three and nine o’clock.
The Atlanta Athletic Club
was an appropriate setting for
the bridesmaids’ party at
which Mrs. Wade P. Harding,
Sr. honored her granddaughter
and attendants on July 19.
Miss Harding has chosen
July 20 for a tea honoring her
bridesmaids at her home prior
to the rehearsal.
Immediately following the
rehearsal on that evening, the
groom’s parents, Mr. and Mrs.
A. G. Grove. Jr., will give a
buffet supper in the church
parlor.
Out-of-town guests at the
wedding on Friday are invit
ed to visit the Harding home
after the wedding breakfast
and see their gifts on display.
Upon their return from their
honeymoon, the bridal couple
will be further complimented
with parties.

tapers. Dainty individual cakes,
decorated in delicate pastel
shades, bridal mints and
cashew nuts were served in
crystal snack dishes. Those as
sisting in serving were: Mrs.
Johnny Hall, Mrs. Pierce Ed
wards, Mrs. John Smith, Mrs.
Carroll Johnston, Mrs. Hodgie
Loyd, Miss Jimmie Lou Gil
ham, Mrs. C. H. Pennington
and Mrs. Wilbur Johnson.
For this occasion Miss Smith
chose a black and white silk
sleeveless model with scooped
neckline and bouffant skirt.

joyed this lovely occasion.

The guests participated in
several games and contests
which were appropriate for the
occasion, prior to the opening
of the many lovely gifts, by
the honoree.
Delicious refreshments were
served by the hostess in crys
tal snack dishes with cups to
match. They consisted of
dainty round and heart-shaped
sandwiches, open - faced sand
wishes, potato chips, hors-d
oeuvres, and individual cakes
with tiny wedding bells on
them. The punch was pink
carrying out the color scheme
of pink and white. Mints and
nuts were served in silver bon
bon dishes.
For this occasion Miss Smith
wore a sheer lilac cotton chif
fon model with a bouffant
skirt.
Those invited were the
bride’s closest friends.

ter of Mr. and Mrs. Walter H.
Harris, Route 4. Covington, has
been named representative to
the Student Council at Tift
College to serve during sum
mer session.
A sophomore at Tift, Miss
Harris is also active in the
Women's Athletic Association.,

Yellow was accentuated in
floral arrangements at van
tage points throughout the at
tractive setting. The entrance
hall’s focal point was a gold
and white compote of yellow
hemoracallis; and it was here
that Mrs. Hoke Randall, wear
ing a white and avacado print
arnel model, with brief cap
sleeves and rounded neckline.
Miss Katrina McKay who wore
a silk sheath with square neck
line and draped overskirt and
Mrs. Frank Williams in a cam
eo pink chiffon with sequin
flecked bodice and gracefully
draped skirt, greeted guests.
The guest book was kept
by Mrs. Leo Masten who wore
a dusty rose satin sheath with
self material bow emphasizing
the empire waistline, and three
quarter length sleeves. In the
living room, where the receiv
ing line formed, the mirror
panelled mantel was flanked
by jet and gold lacquered ped
estals holding jet urns of green
and yellow acuba foliage, and
centered with an overhanging
golden sunburst. Yellow hem
oracallis in a milk glass com
pote formed the coffee table
arrangement.
The hostess wore a chic lace
sheath in navy, with close fit
ting neckline, complimented by
a white carnation corsage; and
Miss Humphries chose a tur
quoise silk organza over satin
sheath, with cording trim im
plying empire lines; and an or
ganza bow with free falling
panels finishing the sheath
skirt’s back, worn with a pink
carnation corsage.
Receiving with them were

ther of the bride - elect, wear
ing horizon blue, fashioned with
decoratively cut neckline and
brief sleeves; Miss Demaris
Humphries in an aqua and
royal blue silk fitted bodice and
full skirt and Miss Annis Hum
phries in a powder blue linen
Hicks-Savage Ceremony Will Be
September Event at Presbyterian Church
The First Presbyterian
Church in Covington will form
the setting for the marriage of
Miss Doris Dianne Hicks,
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dew
ey King Hicks Jr., to Gary
Lanier Savage, son of Mr. and
Mrs. Dean Savage on Tuesday.
September 5, at 7 o’clock in the
evening. The Rev. W. Lamar
Hicks, uncle of the bride and
Rev. Thomas White, will per
form the double ring cere
mony.
Mrs. Tom Harwell, pianist
and Mr. John Knight, soloit,
wiH render the music.
Marian Savage will serve as
his brother’s best man and
usher-groomsmen will be Car
ter Johnson, Teddy Knowles
and Sam Savage, also the
grooms brother
Charlene Hicks was chosen
as her sister’s maid of honor.
The bridesmaids will be Miss
Jewell Cruce and Miss Brenda
Brooks. Nancy Hood and Deb
bie Everett, cousins of the
bride, will act as flower girls.
Johnny Hicks, brother of the
bride, and Bobby Hicks, the
bride’s cousin will serve as
candle lighters.
The bride will be given in
marriage by her father, Dew
ey King Hicks Jr.
Following the ceremony a
reception, given by the bride's
parents, will be held in the
Fellowship Hall. Miss Donna
Steadham will keep the bride's
book. Assisting at the recep
tion will be Mrs. Marshal Dun
can, Miss Lucy Morcock, Miss
Betty Hunt, Miss Iris Duncan
and Miss Cornelia Towns. Miss
Sandy Hicks, cousin of the
bride and Miss Linda Budd,
will also assist.
After a wedding trip they
will be at home at 410 Floyd
Street.
A number of parties are be
ing planned for the bride. On
July 22. Mrs. W. Lamar Hicks
and Mrs. J. L. Hicks will en
tertain at a luncheon in the
Magnolia Room in Rich’s. On
July 29. Mrs. Carl Milner will

roses and pyrethrum, shasta
dasies and plumosis fern in a
silver and crystal epergne. The
silver coffee service; silver
trays of canapes, cheese straws,
and white embossed petits fours
topped with pink rosebuds; a
silver tiered tray of pink and
white wedding motif mints, and
silver compotes of toasted nuts
perfected the attractive ap
pointments. Napkins with the
engaged couple’s names in
scribed in silver highlighted the
betrothal motif.
Mrs. Godfrey Trammell, who
i wore a white linen sheath with
lace bodice traced with wooden
beading: and Mrs. Laverne Co
wen in an azure blue lace over
satin, with scooped neckline,
poured coffee.
Punch was served on t h e
solarium from a table overlaid
with embroidered linen, which
held an intriguing miniature
splashing fountain and pool in
which floated colorful water
lilies. A green pedestal ceramic
bowl held a desk arrangement
of lemon lilies: and a gilded
lavabo held green growing
plants.
Those assisting in serving
punch were: Mrs. Charles C.
King, Jr., who wore an attrac
tive voile with rose and blue
floral print; Miss Helen Masten
in ciel blue, with embroidery
trimmed bodice and puff
sleeves; Miss Sandy King, who
chose a mint green chiffon: and
Miss Mary Grace Ezell of Jack
sonville, Fla., wearing a sleeve
less arnel model in pastel blue.
