Marriage Os Miss Carole Ann Weeks,
Park Winfield Pratt, Jr., Solemnized
Harlow E. Weeks of Atlanta,
announces the marriage of his
daughter, Carole Ann to Parks
Winfield Pratt Jr., son of Parks
Winfield Pratt Sr. of Covington
and Augusta, and the late Mrs.
Emma Thomson Pratt of Cov
ington.
The wedding took place
July 2, in Aiken, South Caro
lina.
Mrs. Pratt Jr., the daughter
of Mrs. Leslie S. Walton of
Clinton, Connecticut, was grad
uated from the Mary A. Burn
ham School for Girls, in North
ampton, Massachusetts and at
tended Hartford College in
Hartford. Connecticut.
Mr. Pratt Jr. was graduated
from Newton County High
School and from Georgia Tech,
where he was a member of IM
Society, Phi Kappa Phi Hon
orary Society and Delat Sig
ma Phi Fraternity. He received
his Masters degree in Business
Administration from Wharton
Graduate School, a division of
the University of Pennsylvania,
in Philadelphia. He is present
ly associated with Fortress

Classes of the First Baptist
Church met Tuesday evening
at the home of Mrs. J. W.
Richardson.
The meeting was opened by
the president, Mrs. Fred Ket
chem. After the singing of,
“Mtike Me A Channel of Bless
ing”, Mrs. H. T. Edwards led
in prayer.
At the conclusion of brief
business session Mrs. E. A. Cal
laway, a visitor, gave the de
votional. The meeting was
closed with sentence prayers.
During the social hour de
licious refreshments were
served by the hostess.

The Corrie Wright Circle of
the First Methodist Church
W. S. C. S. met on Monday af
ternoon at the home of Mrs.
Jack Meadors on King Street.
Miss Lucy Banks brought a
very thought provoking devo
tional which was followed by
prayer.
The business session was pre
sided over by the chairman,
Mrs. C. D. Ramsey. She urged
a good attendance at the joint
meeting of the circles on Au
gust 6th, at ten o’clock at the
home of Mrs. J. W. Purcell.
Each member will bring a cov
ered dish to be used for a pic
nic lunch following the meet
ing.
Allen Memorial Church WSCS Held
July Meeting At Educational Building
Tuesday, July 4, the WSCS
of Allen Memorial Church held
its regular monthly meeting.
Mrs. Virgil Eady, president,
opened the meeting with some
very thought provoking rewarks
from the Christian Herald, re
minding the group how mucn
their independence cost — in
courage, sacrifice and life it
self.
After the prayer, led by the
president, the minutes of the
last meeting were read and the
treasurer’s report was given.

The WMS of Oxford Baptist
Church held their regular
monthly meeting on Monday
night, July 3, at the home of
Mrs. Oliver Meador. The
meeting was called to order by
the Chairman. Mrs. J. P. Shef
field who led the group in
i prayer.
The roll was called and min
utes of the last meeting were
read and approved. New and
old business was discussed. Mrs.
Frank Davis gave the treasur

Some opportunities knock
but once; but how welcome are

W. Lundgren who have recent
ly been transferred here from
Cincinnati, Ohio. where Mr.
Lundgren has been with Mac- !

twenty-three years.
Mr. Lundgren, who is the
Brunswick D i v i s i o n’s Plant
Manager, is a native of Akron, '
Ohio. Included among his hob- I
bies are fishing, hunting and
spectator sports, especially
football, since he was once a
varsity player.
Mrs. Lundgren, who claims
Columbus, Ohio as her home
town, has concentrated on the

We were delighted to hear
good reports of several sick
members. Mrs. Tom Harwell
gave a beautiful talk on “Pray
er” concluding with the inter
esting story of Albrecht Durer
the artist, who painted “Pray
ing Hands”, reminding us of
other toil worn hands around
the world that have labored to
make things easier for others.
She showed us the picture of
these praying hands. She closed
her talk with a prayer.
Mrs. Jack Meadors dismissed
the group with a prayer. The
hostess assisted by Mrs. Ram
sey served ice cream and cake
during the social hour.

gren, who is a junior in the
1 College of Medicine at the Un
iversity of Cincinnati.
The Lundgrens are being
warmly welcomed as neighbors
on Emory Street in Oxford,
where they are at home to
friends.

Ninth Birthday

I celebrated her ninth birthday
which was July 16 for two
days because her party to hon
or this occasion was Saturday
afternoon, July 15, at two
thtrty o’clock at the home of
her parents, Mr. and Mrs.
James Smith, at 33 Poplai
Street. Interesting games were
directed by her mother, and
everyone had fun.
Many pretty and useful gifts
were presented to her prior to
the serving of refreshments.
There were ice cream and cake
and candy for all. The beauti
ful cake embossed in white
with yellow and green flowers
said “Happy Birthday Kay”
and had nine candles for the
occasion.

Prospect MYF met Sunday
night at Prospect Church. Al
though we had a good number
present, we miss Alma Jo
Simms, a senior member of our
MYF, who is now in business
school.
After the meeting was called
to order all old and new bus
iness was discussed. It was de
cided the girls would help at
the Fish Fry Prospect is hav
ing July 22 from 12-8 p. m.
Tickets are sl. for adults and
75 cents for children. Ticketi
may be purchased from Tom
Moss, Alton Jolley or Rev.
