Brownie Scout Investiture Ceremony
Held Tuesday at Porterdale Gym

portant phase of the Girl Scout
Program.
An impressive part of the
Investiture Service came when
each individual Brownie seat
ed in a circle went to the cen
ter, turned herself around
three times at an improvised
pool surrounded by magnolia
foliage and said, “Twist me and
turn me and show me the elf.
I looked in the water and saw
•—myself!”, after which she
gave the salute and promise to
her leader. Upon receiving her
Brownie pin from Mrs. Her
ring and the membership card

garlanded the crystal punch
bowl and lovely yellow mari
golds with green centers grown
by Mr. E. L. Digby were ar
ranged in a crystal bowl to
further beautify the table. On
an end table nearby, a tiny
basket of marigolds added beau
ty. Summer flowers of black
eyed Susans and white Queen
Ann’s lace in a green vase
adorned the piano.

Included in the series of pre
nuptial festivities at which Miss
Mary Bo Strozier continues to
be feted was a kitchen shower
Saturday afternoon, at the home
of Miss Ellen Weaver, who had
as her co-hostess for the de
lightful occasion, Miss Sarah
Stephenson.
Pink into fuchsia composed
the color scheme throughout
the attractive setting. Pink into
scarlet roses in a green crystal
container formed the reception
hall’s mantel arrangement. In
the living room, Southern
Charm roses were used on the
piano. A colonial arrangement
of Southern magnolias on a
marble top chest and a white
alabaster compote of pink rose
buds, white dahlias with green
and white euphorbia on an oc
casional table, also lent floral
interest, as did a marble com
pote of crimson petunias, which
composed the coffee table ar
rangement.
The refreshment table, over
laid with Alencon lace trim
med. Belgium linen embroider
ed cut work cloth, was cen
tered with an exquisite ar
rangement of white gardenias
in a silver compote. Silver trays

Napkins bearing silver wedding
bells highlighted the nuptial
theme. Frosted glasses of pink
tinted punch were served from
a silver tray on a side table.
Pink roses and fuchsia dahlias
were artistically combined in a
Florentine silver filagree bowl
to form the side board arrange
ment; while pink and white
waterlilies in an antique sil
ver container, balanced Dres- i
den figurines on the mantel.
After refreshments were
served, an intriguing series of
contests in keeping with the
bridal theme was enjoyed; and
the many useful gifts for the
bride-elect’s kitchen, present
ed in a small wheelbarrow,
were opened and displayed by
the honoree, who wore a pink
polished cotton model, with fu
chsia velvet belt, and hemline
insert.
Twenty -two friends, includ
ing guests from Madison, Mon
roe and Atlanta were present.
Mrs. J. B. Weaver and Mrs.
Lee Stephenson, mothers of the
hostesses, assisted them in en
tertaining.

arrangements, on the buffet

white motif.

wers in shades of yellow into
bronze, in a wooden bowl,
charmingly emphasized the
den’s decor.
Bride Bingo and other games
reflecting the occasion’s theme
were enjoyed by the group,
prior to the presentation of the
gifts, made in an artistically
decorated wicker basket, which
emphasized the pink and white
color scheme.
The honoree, who wore an
ice blue cotton chiffon, with
Grecian neckline and full skirt,
was presented with a corsage
of pink throated, white cym
bidium orchids; and as a me
mento of the occasion, an En
glish six-pence to be worn in
her wedding slipper.
At the conclusion of the fes
tivities, wedding slipper i c e
cream molds, in pink and white,
were served with pink and
white embossed petits fours.

Mason Stephenson
Vacations With
Family at Gardens
Mason W. Stephenson of Cov
ington, president of the Junior
Classical League, vacationed |
with his family last week at
Callaway Gardens here as a
winner of a Gardens’ Leader
ship Award.
He received the award f o r
being selected as one of t h e
top 12 outstanding leaders of
his organization in the state.
The vacation included lodg
ing in the new Callaway Gar
dens family cottages and the
supervised recreation program.
Stephenson received instruc
tion in water skiing, golf, cir
cus acts, arts and crafts, tram
polines, nature study and other
activity.
The recreation program is
conducted by students in t h e
Florida State University Circus
which is making its “summer
quarters” in the Gardens.
Stephenson is also president
of the local Junior Classical lea
gue, chaplain of Hi-Y, librarian
of Newton County High School,
a member of the high school
band and an active Boy Scout
worker.
He is the son of Mr. and Mrs.
Donald Stephenson.
North Covington
Methodist Men
Met Wednesday
The monthly meeting of the
North Covington Methodist
Men was held Wednesday even
ing, July 19, in the education
building of the church.
E. G. Lassiter Jr. was the
guest speaker, discussing the
subject of Christian steward
ship of time, talents, and mon
ey. Following Mr. Lassiter’s
presentation, the club members
enjoyed refreshments and in
formal discussion.
This meeting was the first
since the time for meeting was
changed from Sunday morning
breakfast to the Wednesday
evening time of 7:30.
The next meeting will be held
।on August 23 at 7:30 P. M.
Melvin Conrad of Oxford will
jbe the guest speaker, showing

Brazil and telling of his mis
sion service there.
Jack Elliott are gratified to
learn that she is reported mak
ing satisfactory progress at
Newton County Hospital, where
she has been a patient the past
week, and that she will prob
ably be permitted to return
home this weekend. A wide
circle of friends are extending
good wishes for her early re
covery.
