Among delightful social
events making up the week’s
calendar, was a morning cof
fee on Saturday, at which Mrs.
Nat S. Turner complimented
her houseguest, Mrs. Shelly
Griffin of Waynesboro, at her
home on Monticello St.
Yellow roses and chrysan
themums were used effectively
in artistic arrangements in the
living room. In the library, red
radiance roses were combined
with crimson veined caladium
leaves to achieve floral inter
est.
The refreshment table fea
tured a centerpiece of roses,
gladiolus and asters, in white
and deepening hues of pink,

Mr. and Mrs. Bob Franklin

the Newton County Hospital
on Tuesday, September 5. He
has been named John Robert
Franklin, Jr. Mrs. Franklin is
the former Miss Nan Hollings
worth of Porterdale. Mr. and
Mrs. Madison Hollingsworth of
Covington, Georgia are the ma
ternal grandparents. The pa
ternal grandparents are Mr.
and Mrs. Robert Franklin of
Columbus, Georgia.
Mrs. James Johnson and Mrs. '

end in Smyrna with Mrs. C.
G. Willis. Jimmy Johnson re

spent a week at the Wills home.

An enjoyable occasion of
Tuesday night was the cook
out held at the home of Mr.
and Mrs. Otis Nixon when the
Estherian, Joy and Light Bear
ers Classes of the First Baptist
Church Sunday School, com
bined for a delicious hambur
ger supper.
The group gathered in the
yard of the beautiful country
home where a period of fel
lowship was enjoyed prior to
the delicious meal of hambur
gers and all the trimmings. Miss
Lois Gray led the group in
prayer.
At the conclusion of the meal
the entire group gathered in
the living room of the home

in the home of Mrs. Guy Jones
with Mrs. Paul Harwell as co
hostess. Twenty-one ladies and
the pastor, Rev. Asbury Craft,'
were present.
After the opening song, “Have
Thine Own Way”, Mrs. W. R.
Porter led in prayer. Mrs. T.
W. Binford, president, wel
comed every one and especial
ly Mrs. Ida Branch, a visitor.
Miss Mellie Pitts, treasurer,
gave the financial report and
collected dues. There was no
report of the secretary due to
her absence. It was announced |
the Seminar will be held at the
First Methodist Church in Cov
ington on September 26.

Rev. Asbury Craft, who gave
the program on the subject,

sale Saturday and they wish to :

meeting in her lovely home
and for a enjoyable time.
Each class then separated for
short business sessions during
which reports were made and
roll call taken. Plans were dis
cussed for promotion for the
classes, which will be the last
Sunday in September.
Thirty members of the three
classes were present to enjoy
the combined meeting. A com
mittee from each of the classes
was in charge of planning and
I preparing the delicious meal.
“The Spirit of the Lord”. His
talk was very interesting and
inspirational. Mrs. D. W. Loyd
discissed with prayer.
The hostess served delicious
refreshments of a salad course
and punch.

Meeting of Year
The first meeting of ‘he Gam
rri Tri-Hi-Y of Newton Coun
ty High School was held on
Wednesday, September 6, op
ening with the group repeating
the Y-Purpose and song.
Suzanne Adams gave an in
spiring devotional emphasizing
the worth of man. Reports by
the project chairman, Rose
mary Laster and Carol George,
were next on the agenda. The
club was informed of the Y
Council made up of presidents
and project chairmen of all the
Y-Clubs of the high school.
Newton High will be the host
of the Y Caravan on Septem
ber 18.
Betty Faith Jaynes was elect
ed treasurer. Rosemary Smith
I reported to the club about the
i Y-Club convention at Rock
Eagle this summer.
Day Morcock had charge of
the program. A very interesting
play, "Fate of Quest”, was pre
sented by several of the mem
bers. The meeting was adjourn
[ed with the benediction.
