The following paragraphs
were written on Thanksgiving
by Mrs. Davis’ third grade.
Thanksgiving Day

I like Thanksgiving because
1 go to Macon to see my grand
mother. I am glad the Pilgrims
started Thanksgiving Day. I
like turkey, canberries and
dressing. At grandmother’s I
can eat all the good I want un
til it is gone. Uncle Billy. Aunt
T., Aunt Clara, Uncle Dun, Ri
chard, Tommy, Sam, Tawn and
Sara will be there. I am sure
that we will have a good time
at grandmother’s house.

On the 23th of November we
have Thanksgiving. Our family
goes to my aunts for Thanks
giving. We have cranberry
sauce, dressing and turkey.
Then we go down to their lake
and fish. We play for a little
while, then we go home. We
have a good time.

and Aunt come to see me. I am
very glad when they do. We
have a very big feast. When we
get through mother cleans off
the table. They stay a very
long time. We go for a ride in

home I watch TV. Then they

again next year.

Thanksgiving was named by
the Pilgrims. We always have
Thanksgiving in November. On
Thanksgiving we go to my
aunt’s and eat with her. Her
little girl plays with us. She is
four years old. Her little boy is
one year old.
The Speedwell

The Pilgrims set sail to
America in 1607. The ocean was
rough to cross. When they were
almost 200 miles the Speedwell
had a leak. So they had to go
back to England. It was patch
ed and they set sail again to
the new land. They went 300
miles and the Speedwell had
another leak. They turned back.

fun. We have good food. We

and pumpkin pie. The first
Thanksgiving was held by the
Pilgrims. They were very hap
py about Thanksgiving. They
all cooked something to eat.
They had fun. They feasted for
three days.

in the New World. During the
winter they built the homes.
Then one day a man said. “WE
will have three days of thanks
to thank God for taking care
of us”. So in 1622 the Pilgrims
had the first Thanksgiving.
They invited some of the In
dians to come. From that day
on the Indians were their
friends.

World. The reason they left
England was because the King
in England wanted everyone to
gc to his church. The Pilgrims
wanted to go to another church.

named the Speedwell and May
flower. There was 100 people
on the ship. There was much
illness, 51 people died. The
first Thanksgiving was in 1622.

There was ice and snow all on
the land. Fifty-one people died
in the cold. There were some

grims made some log cabins
and they made a very long fen
ce around them. In 1622 the
Pilgrims had the first Thanks
giving. The Indians said, “God
loves his white children best”.

like the turkey we have.
Thanksgiving day comes in No
vember. I’m going to invite my
grandfather and my grand
mother to eat with us. We are
going to have turkey and other
things to eat. Then we are go
ing for a ride in the country, to
get another turkey to eat. We
are going home and eat it.
Grandfather and grandmother
will have to go home. After
they left we ate the turkey.

They had a long ride on the
sea. Many men died. On the
ship a little baby was born. Af
ter a long time another baby
was born. It was hard to go to
America with not many sailors.
When they got to America they
lived in the ship till the homes
were made.

the Pilgrims died because they
had been exposed to the cold.

much food. Every day their
store of food got smaller. The
Pilgrims had to save as much
food as they could.
