Mrs. Hiram Ellis Was Hostess
Corrie Wright Circle Meeting
The Corrie Wright Circle of
the First Methodist WSCS met
on Monday, November 20, at
the home of Mrs. Hiram Ellis
on Church Street with ten
members and two visitors pres
ent.
The meeting was opened
with a Thanksgiving prayer by
the chairman, Mrs. C. D. Ram
sey Jr. Mrs. Jack Meadors gave
the secretary’s report. Mrs. A.
D. Jordan was acting treasur
er in the absence of Mrs. John
Bob Weaver. Mrs. J. D. Har
per gave a report for the Sun
day
shine Committee.
The Circle sent a Christmas
Love offering to the McCarty
Center in Atlanta and to Paine
College in Augusta. The Circle
will also cooperate with the
American Legion Auxiliary Observes
Birthday At Dinner and Program
The Newton County Ameri
can Legion and American Le
gion Auxiliary, Post and Unit
No. 32 celebrated the Auxil
iary’s Birthday on November
13, 1961, in the Legion Home
in Covington.

Standard, (Post No. 32 Chap
lain).
Commander C. T. Bohanan
and Mrs. Luke Hill, President,
welcomed the members and
guests. Introduction of out-of
town guests. State Commander
Ben Chatfield, Macon, and
Mrs. William Martin, State
President of the Auxiliary, and
Mr. Martin of Macon, local
guests, Mr. and Mrs. Otis Nix
on.
A delicious turkey dinner
was enjoyed by the members
and guests.
Afterwards, Commander Bo
hanan conducted an initiation
of new Legion members.
Mrs. Hill then presented
Mrs. Jack Chapman, Music
Chairman. Mrs. Chapman, Mr.
Chapman, Mrs. Neal Banks,
Mrs. Lois Hay and William
Crawford gave an outstanding
Poppy Program which had been
recorded over WGFS for Pop
py Day. The Program con
sisted of readings by Mrs. Hay,
several hymns and other se
lections by William Crawford,
duets by Mr. Crawford and
Mrs. Chapman.

other three circles in preparing
and paying for a Christmas
party for 38 children from
throughout the county. This
will be on December 18, in the
church dining room and will
take the place of the Decem
ber Circle meeting. The Janu
ary meeting will be on January
15, at the Floyd Street home
of Mrs. Derrell Harper.
Mrs. W. K. Swann brought
the lesson for the afternoon on,
“Faith”, concluding with the
23rd Psalm repeated in unison
Miss Lucy Banks brought a
message on “Are We Thankful
For the Church”?, as a closing
devotional.
Mrs. Ellis served ambrosia
and cake during the social
hour. She was assisted by Mrs.
Ramsey and Mrs. Huie Moore.

gion, Department of Georgia.
The members of the Legion and
Auxiliary congratulated Chap
lain Standard on this appoint
ment.
After singing “Blue and
Gold” and “Til We Meet
Again”, the meeting was ad
journed.

fulness of all the friends and
neighbors of Mr. and Mrs. G.
L. Carter, who sent flowers
and did so many things to help
us, shall always be remember
ed and appreciated.
It is indeed comforting to
realize that friendship can
mean sb much and to know that
there is always someone to
help us through our saddest
moments.

paring the wonderful supper
for the family and friends, who
had traveled to be with us is
something that no amount of

Double- Ring Ceremony Unites
Miss Linda Hutson, Joe Hunt, Jr.
Miss Linda Hutson, daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Hutson
of Walnut Grove, became the
bride of Joseph O. Hunt Jr.,
son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph O.
Hunt, Sr., on November 23, at
Walnut Grove Methodj^t
Church. Rev. Clyde Lancaster
performed the double - ring
ceremony.
The altar was beautifully de
corated with a central basket
of white gladiolus and flanked
by potted ferns and two seven
branched candelabra.
Prior to and during the cere
mony, a program of nuptial
music was rendered by Tom
Brodnax.
Mr. Hunt chose as his best
man, his father, Mr. J. O. Hunt,
Sr. John, brother of the groom,
served as usher.
Miss Lanelle Hutson, sister
of the bride, served as maid
of honor. She wore a lovely
blue wool dress and a corsage
of cymbidium orchids.
The radiant bride, given in
marriage by her father, chose
for her wedding a blue wool
sheath featuring a scoop neck
line with three-quarter length
sleeves. She wore a white vel
vet hat accentuated with pearls.
Her only ornament was a
strand of pearls with matching
earrings, a gift of her sister.
She carried a white Bible top
ped with a white orchid and
showered with knotted satin
streamers.
Mrs. Hutson, mother of the
bride, wore a dress of blue and
black matte jersey with black
accessories and a corsage of
white carnations. Mrs. Hunt,
mother of the groom, wore a
blue wool dress with black ac
cessories and a corsage of white
carnations.
Mrs. G. N. Breazeale of Jef
ferson, maternal grandmother
of the bride, wore a lovely
green knit dress with black
accessories and a white carna
tion corsage.
Mrs. W. E. Wall of Athens,
maternal grandmother of the
groom, wore a dark blue suit
with black accessories and a
white carnation corsage.
Miss Betty Hunt, sister of the
groom, who wore a pale blue
wool dress and a white car
nation corsage, kept the bride’s
book.

Women Os Presbyterian Church
Heard Speech By Mrs. Secrest
The November meeting of
the Women of the Presbyterian
Church was held November 21
; 10:30 in the Fellowship Hali
with twenty-five members and
four visitors present.
The meeting was called to
order by the president, Mrs.
Hugh King. She read a Thanks
giving poem after which the
group joined in singing the
“Doxology". Mrs. E. L. Patrick
led in prayer.
The minutes of the last meet
ing were read and approved and
the treasurer’s report was giv
e and placed on file. Circle
reports were given and Circle
I and V received blue ribbons
for best attendance. Mrs. Tom

Miss Linda Hutson and Joe
Hunt Jr. were honored with
a rehearsal supper on Satur
day night, November 18, at
6 o’clock at Henderson’s Res
taurant on Jackson Highway,
by the groom’s parents, Mr
and Mrs. Joe Hunt Sr.
The bride-to-be wore a dark
wool sheath dress with an or
chid corsage.

Meeting At Welaunee Hotel, P'dalc
The Alpha F.ta Chapter of
Alpha Delta Kappa had its
November meeting on Tuesday
afternoon, November 21, at the
Welaunee Hotel in Porterdale,
Georgia at four o’clock. Miss
Mary Trippe and Miss Pauline
Hardman were co-hostesses.
Mrs. Edgar Wood, President,
presided over the short busi
ness session. A shower of bath
cloths for the Newton County
Hospital was one of our al
truistic projects for the month.
Mrs. Lucy Moore, a retired
teacher and member of The
Delta chapter of the Alpha
Delta Kappa from Decatur,
Georgia, gave some highlights
of the National Convention held
in Denver, Colorado in July
1961.

December 12 will be given la-

ingly on the Third Assembly
of the World Council of
Churches. Mrs. Sam Hay closed
the meeting with prayer.
Luncheon was served fol
lowing the meeting.
The couple chose this time
to present their attendant.-

Covers were laid for sixteen
guests.
After the rehearsal at the
Methodist Church in Walnut
Grove, theparty gathered at the
home of Mrs. Leone F. Brod
nax for coffee and cake.
A delicious salad was served
to all members with the ex
ception of Mrs. Mercer Carter,
who could not be present.

tions added festivity and color
to our fellowship around our
long table in the hotel dining
room.
Miss Cynthia Harris enjoyed
the Thanksgiving holidays here
with her parents Mr. and Mrs.
W. C. Harris. Spending the
weekend were Mr. and Mrs. i
Larry Harris and Leslie of Co
lumbia, South Carolina. The
group, joined by Mr. and Mrs.
Jimmy Harris and daughter
Teri, enjoyed Sunday at the
home of Mrs. W. C. Harris in
Atlanta where they held their
annual Thanksgiving gather

giving banquet Saturday, No
vember 25. We had our asso
ciate pastor as guest speaker
and had a skit by the wives of
pastor and our associate pastor.
We enjoyed the wonderful tur
key supper and would like to
thank all those who helped
prepare the meal.
After the meat and speech
by our associate pastor, we
played a game of spelling call

Everyone enjoyed the ban
