Allgood Elected Oxford Mayor;
Incumbent Councilmen Victors
Wiley Allgood, prominent
business man and civic leader,
was elected mayor of Oxford
Monday in the town’s general
election which also named
three councilmen for a two
year term.
Mr. Allgood polled 151 votes
to Aubra Sherwood’s 69. Both
had formerly served as mayor
of the town. In all, some 222
citizens of the town voted in
the election.
Incumbent councilmen
Thomas W. Dial, Garland Wil
liams and E. V. Moss were re
elected for another two-year
term. Dial polled 183 votes,
Williams 165 and Moss 130. The
other two candidates in the
council race were Carlos Meyer
105. and W. Ira Bowen 51.
The new mayor will succeed
A. W. Jackson who was not a
' candidate for re-election.
