BILIOUS ATTACK
The liver is to be regarded as a great
' poison filter for the entire body. So long
w’ J "^B as there is no interference with its nerve
supply and function, it can deal with poi-
Q sons d * fast ai they are formed, the body
'* la ^ e anc ^ ean rema ' n healthy. But if the
^Bg^ liver does not function properly the
J poisons are not handled properly and we
. become "bilious." Our head aches, our
i tongue becomes coated, we have a bad
x ' taste in the mouth, we lose our appetite
i and feel stuoid, dull and feverish.
Such waste products as the liver can
-888 BBHHBk not burn down, so that the kidneys and
skin can handle them it pours out thru its duct into the intestine
as bile. The bile is a yellowish brown fluid, which assists the pan
creatic juice in the digestion of the food, and helps to dissolve
the fats eaten. It is however chiefly waste product.
Besides being a great blood purifier the liver is a blood
maker in the sense that it changes food stuffs in the blood from
the intestines into forms which are more suitable for use by the
brain muscles and other tissues of the body. Some of the sugars,
for instance, the liver changes into a kind of animal starch
(glycogen) which it stores away in its own'cells. It also turns
both sugars and proteins into fat, part of which it pours into
the blood and part of which it stores away in its own cells.
The liver is very important in the network of organs of the
body. Maintain its normal function by Chiropractic adjustments.

For Children
For the fifth year the Uni
versity of Georgia is turning its
adult education center into a
Christmas headquarters for
children.
The Center for Continuing
Education will open its annual
Christmas Festival with gold
and glitter, enhanced by color
ful murals made by children in
the Clarke County Schools.
The spirit of Christmas will
be brought into focus on WGTV,
the University’s non-commer
cial station, with a series
“Christmas Festival Hours”.
The series, at 7:30 p. m., will
begin December 18 and run
through Christmas night.
Both the gay and solemn
moods of Christmas will be pic

quality and type of bristles that
determine successful perfor
mance.
What kind of bristle makes
the best brush’ The answer is
explained in this way. Since
boar bristles tend to hold mois
ture, they do the best job of
spreading natural oils through
the hair. Also ends are un
even so that long ends mas
sage the scalp, increasing cir
culation. while short ends
clean the hair.
Brushes today come often in
shapes to fit the head, with
shorter handles for better lever

stiffness. In buying a hair
brush, pay heed to the tag
which tells you to dip in water
and let dry before use. This
measure will prevent bristles
from drying out. Good hair
brushes are fairly expensive
but, with care, will last a life

Families Asked to Use Care
With Fire Throughout Year
Families throughout the na

today to keep the Christmas
season merry by using care
with fire.
Moreover, the Board asked
that care with fire not stop at
the end of the holiday season,
but be carried on throughout
the year.

If You're A
Baby Sitter,
Heed These Tips
If you have never been a
baby sitter before, your chance
may come along during the
holiday season this year.
A good sitter is one who has
a sense of responsibility.
There are certain things a
good baby sitter does not do,
such as raid the icebox with
out permission or make long
distance telephone calls.
If you are serving as a baby
sitter for the first time this
holiday season, the National
Board of Fire Underwriters of
fers these suggestions:
Get His Phone Number
1. Ask your employer to leave
with you. in writing, the phone
number of the place where he
will be. Tell him this is merely
a precautionary step, and you
will not call him except in an
emergency.
2 Also, have him give you (
the phone number of a friend ।
of the family who lives nearby, I
or the phone number of a next
door neighbor.
3. Ask your employer to
leave the telephone number of
the fire department and the
family doctor beside the phone.
4. When you enter the home
where you are to baby sit.
make a mental note of where
the exits are; then, in case of
fire, you can get the children
out of the house quicklv.
Know Where Flashlight Is
5. Ask your employer where
he keeps his flashlight. You
might need it suddenly if the
lighting should fail.
ters, “Christmas spirit” and a
ballerina, will show the child
ren how to make sparkly
Christmas items. WGTV will
send a kit to those who write
to the station, and with this kit
the children will be able to
work along with “Christmas
spirit.”

the fourth year in a row,” said
Lewis A. Vincent, general man
ager of the National Board.
“This appalling toll in lives
and property can be reduced
with a little more care on
everyone’s part,” Mr. Vincent
added-
Care Can Save Lives
“Ordinary care around the
Christmas tree can save lives
and prevent property loss this
holiday season.
“And continued care after
the holidays are over can help
keep fires at a minimum.”
8. Take a look around and
make sure that any matches in
the house are out of reach of
children.
7. If fire should break out,
follow this procedure: Get the
child or children out of the
house, then call the fire de
partment, then notify the par
ents.
It’s pretty hard to convince
the kids that the shortage of
teachers is a calamity.

Care Is Urged
“The ' Christmas season can

“It is a well-known fact that
three-fourths of all fires are
caused by carelessness and for
