Has Annual Christmas Dinner
The North Covington Wo
man's Society of Christian Ser
vice held their annual Christ
mas dinner at the church on
Tuesday evening. A festive air
was created by the red candles
and large bowls of red berries.
Tall red tapers banked with
holly graced the center of each
table. The husbands of the
members and several other
guests joined the society for
the occasion.
After the delicious turkey
dinner, a short business meet
ing was held for the purpose of
paying pledges and making
final plans for several Christ
mas projects.

er of the Stable”, in a beauti
ful and impressive way.
Mrs. Annie Day was cele
brating the anniversary of her
twenty-fifth year of bringing
Mrs. Santa Claus to the chil
dren of the North Covington
Church at their annual Christ
mas tree.
Gifts including all kinds of
toys were given to the nursery
of the church school.
The meeting was closed with
the singing of “Blest Be The
Tie”.

Miss Ellington and Mr. Russell
Mr. and Mrs. Jesse H. Elling
ton announce the engagement
of their daughter, Patsy Ann,
to Don V. Russell, son of Mr.
and Mrs. Donald Russell of
Smyrna.
Miss Ellington is an honor
graduate of Newton County
High School. She attended
West Georgia College and has
completed her BS degree in
elementary education. She is
employed by the Fulton Coun
ty Board of Education.
Mr. Russell is serving with
the United States Navy and is
stationed at Memphis, Tennes
see.

Yuletide Season with Christmas Tea
A lovely affair ushering in
the Yuletide season was the
annual Christmas Tea given by
the Covington Woman’s Club
on Tuesday afternoon, Decem
, ber 5 at the club building with

ing in the large open fire place.
. A miniature Santa surrounded
by Christmas greenery stood
guard atop the piano, and a
lovely all white arrangement
composed of a Madonna on a
pedestal surrounded by white
flowers, formed the centerpiece
for the speakers table.

ford gave the devotional using
the beautiful reading “Lets
Keep Christmas” by Peter
Marshall.
Mrs. Hugh McDonald pre
sented the Girls Glee Club with
a trio singing. “No Candle Was
There, and No Fire,” and the
group of twelve sang “Three
Songs For Christmas.” They
were accompanied by Mrs.
Martin Goode.
Mrs. McDonald sang “O,
Holy Night” to the delight of
all present and led the group
in singing Christmas Carols.
A social hour followed at
which time the hostesses served
delicious refreshments with all
the attractive tray arrange
ments and other accessories
carrying out the holiday motif.
The tea table was overlaid
with a white embroidered lin
en cloth centered with an ar
rangement of scarlet carnations
in a silver bowl, flanked by
four burning red tapers. The
Christmas Season was truly in
evidence throughout the entire
party.

At the conclusion of the busi

ed the Mizpah benediction, af
ter which the hostess served
delicious refreshments of
punch, cake, nuts and canapes.

dancing and tumbling classes
entertained the group with
several numbers. Accompan
ing the children at the piano
was Mrs. R. M. Tuck Sr.
After the devotional given
by Rev. Bill Kirby, Rev. Bill
Griffin led the group in sing
ing, “Hark the Herald Angels
Sing”.
Mrs. Claire Ellis, with all the
small children gathered around
her, then read “The Littlest
Angel”, in a most interesting
manner, after which she gave
each child a peppermint candy
cane.
Mrs. Leigh Jay, accompanied
by Mrs. H. O. Whelchel, sang,
“Star of the East”, as a solo,
after which the entire group
sang, “Joy to the World”, and
“O Little Town of Bethlehem”.
Rev. Kirby sang, “What
Child Is This”, with group sing
ing of “O Come All Ye Faith
ful”, after which “Rev. Bill
Griffin”, sang “How Great
Thou Art”. To conclude the im
pressive and enjoyable pro
gram “Silent Night”, was sung,
after which the benediction
was given by Rev. Kirby.

the Yehudi Menhuin Concert
at the Atlanta City Auditorium
on Saturday night.
The Covington Garden Club Has
December Meeting at Campbell Home
The Covington Garden Club
met at the home of Mrs. R.
P. Campbell for the December
meeting. The home was beau
tifully decorated, carrying out
the Christmas theme.
The meeting was opened by
Mrs. Campbell, president. Mrs.
Spence Ramsey introduced the
speaker, Mrs. McLaney, who
showed quite a number of
Christmas arrangements which
offered helpful ideas to be
used during the Christmas sea
son and was enjoyed by all
present.
Prior to the program a social
hour was enjoyed during which
time delicious refreshments
were served by the hostess and
her committee, Mrs. Edgar

Circle 111 of the First Pres
byterian Church held its reg
ular monthly meeting Monday,
December 4, at the home of
Mrs. E. C. Smith on Floyd
Street. Mrs. L. A. Patrick open
ed the meeting with prayer.
Mrs. W; L. Rick called the
roll and read the minutes of
the last meeting. Eleven mem
bers and one visitor were pres
ent. Mrs. Sam Hay announced

birthday dinner Sunday, De
cember 10, at the Mansfield
community house. Mrs. Ralph
Adams assisted in entertaining.
The table was overlaid with
a red cloth with white tissue
paper ruffles down the length
of the table. Centering the ta
ble was a three tiered cake sur
rounded with a net ruffle and
pink carnations. Topping and
surrounding the cake were
"candles.

Discusses
Date Problem
On Wednesday, November
29, the Alpha Tri-Hi-Y met.
We began the meeting by
saying the Creed and sing
ing our song. The minutes
were read and approved. Ro
bin Dennison, our project
chairman, announced that our
community project for De
cember will be taking bas
kets of fruit to the shut-ins
for Christmas. Our school pro
ject is a "Church Loyalty
Campaign.” We will encourage
all students to become more
faithful church members. An
inspiring devotional was
presented by Rita Harris.
The subject of our program
was the problems of dating.
Cheryl Pannell, Robin Den
nison and Michelle Reese led
the discussion and brought
out many of our trials. The
program helped us to gain »
better approach to solving
these problems. The meeting
was adjourned.
GIRL SCOUT NEWS
TROOP 1062
We opened our meeting with
the pledge to the flag and the
Girl Scout Promise. We sang
America and Girl Scouts to
gether.
First of all our cake sale was
a success and we thank every
one who participated in it, es
pecially the buyers.
We will meet at the First
Baptist Church on December
20, to go caroling. Following
the caroling we will visit the
Home for the Aged and put on
a Christmas program. Then we
will have our party.
We had hot dogs and Cokes
for refreshments and closed our
meeting with the friendship
circle.

Is” as her subject and ending
with prayer. The minutes, roll

take an arrangement to the
hospital to be used in the pa
tients rooms during the Holi
day season.
The horticulture awards
went to Mrs. Taylor, four blue;
Mrs. Trammell, one blue; Mrs.
Campbell, two blue.

Christmas as a community pro
ject. Members were urged to
remember their mail men at
Christmas Time.
In the absence of the home
demonstration agent, each
member presented hand made
decorations and gifts. Many
useful and beautiful items
were presented.
Delicious refreshments were
served in the dining room by
the hostess, Mrs. Stanton.
