Miss Bulloch is a graduate of

Mr. Thompson, also a gradu

man in the Naval Air Force,

Christmas Party at Welaunee Hotel
PORTERDALE — The Lob~
by of the Welaunee Hote! was
a beautiful spectacle when Mrs.
W. C. Ivey was heostess to
members of the W. S. C. S. of
the Julia A. Porter Memorial
Methodist Chureh on Tuesday
evening, December 12, at
seven - thirty o’clock. Thirty~
two guests were cordially
greeted by Mrs. Ivey who is
President of the W.S.C.S.
Mrs. Richard Bellairs read
the Christmas message from
the Gospel of Matthew and the
story, “Come To Bethlehem”.
Exciting and entertaining
games were directed by Mrs.
Leßoy McGiboney. The Christ
mas Menu was won by Mrs. B.
B. Snow, who received a Christ
mas corsage. Clever assign
ments for each person were
distributed and in return for
their accomplishments, mem
bers received gifts from be
neath the silvery tree lighted
by a revolving lamp.
Mrs. Foy Ellington Was Hostess to
December Meeting Alpha Eta Chapter
PORTERDALE — The Alpha
Eta Chapter of Alpha Delta
Kappa held their December
meeting on Tuesday, Decem
'ber 12, at four o’clock. We met
| with Mrs. Foy Ellington who
| was assisted by Mrs. Mercer
Carter.
In the absence of our Presi
}dent and Vice-President, Mrs.
| Carter presided.

Mrs. Bellairs gave to each
person a card and instructed
them to write a Christmas
message with the succeeding
letters in “Merry Christmas”.
It was not revealed until they
were completed that the mes
sages from each guest were
wishes for Mrs. Ivey’s happi
ness at Christmas. Mrs. Bellairs
then presented to her a lovely
gift, token of appreciation from
her friends in the society.
Circles met briefly for busi
ness transactions.
Mrs. Ivey invited guests into
the dining room equally as
beautiful as the lobby and they
were seated at long tables
overlaid with white and adorn
ed with Yuletide arrangements.
A delicious salad-dessert plate
was enjoyed.
To conclude the evening of
fellowship, each joined hands
and united to sing “Blest Be the
Tie That Binds”.
Snellville, Georgia brought the
group a beautiful Christmas
story.
A delicious salad course was
served carrying out the Christ
mas motif.
January 23 will be the date
of the next meeting. The time
will be announced later.
At the conclusion of the
meeting, Mrs, Carter dismiss
ed the group with prayer.

and Mr. Loyd is serving in the
US Navy.

A group of Junior Girls sang
two carols, “O, Come All Ye
Faithful” and “The First Noei”
accompanied on the clarinet by
Becky Strawn. They were:
Donna Jean Allgood, Rosemary
Few, Janice Huckaby; Sally
Kay Mills, and Brenda Smith.
Miss Ruby Jordan led a most
inspiring, beautiful deotional
whose spiritual emphasis pre
pared the hearts of all for the
true observance of Christmas.
The Rev. H. H. Dillard, Pas
tor, returned thanks for the
wonderful meal.
To conclude the party, gifts
were exchanged. This phase
was directed by Mrs. Lottie
Hamby and Mrs. Lorene Cham
bers. Mrs. O’Bryant then pre
sented to Mr. B. B. Snow,
Class Teacher, a gift of appre
ciation from his class. He re
sponded with words of appre
ciation and good wishes. The
Rev. Dillard spoke encouraging
words also.
The group joined hands and
sang “Blest Be the Tie” for
their concluding prayer.

several humorous Christmas
readings which created the at
mosphere of Christmastime and
the fun of exchanging gifts.
Refreshments, suggestive of the
season, were served.
Miss Ellen Weaver, student
at the University of Georgia,
Athens, is spending the holi
days here with her parents Mr.
and Mrs. J. B. Weaver. Rev. and
Mrs. Frank Martin of Florence,
Alabama will spend Saturday
here with her parents before
going to Jacksonville, Florida to
spend Christmas. They will re
turn to Covington next Wed
nesday to spend the remainder
of the week here. Mr, and Mrs.
Weaver with Ellen will spend
Christmas Day in Griffin with
Mr. and Mrs. John Harlow.

At Henderson’s
On Friday, December 15,
about twenty-five former traf
fic employees of the local
Southern Bell met for a re
union and Christmas Party at
Henderson’s Restaurant.
The dining room was beau
tifully decorated in Christmas
colors with a beautiful tree. Af
ter exchanging gifts, the de
licious dinner was served.
Mrs. Carolyn Theroux, form
er chief operator, now chietf
operator at Athens, and Mrs.
Mary E. Haulk, another chief
operator now of Madison were
special guests.
Mrs. Sarah Bohannon, Mrs.
Lucile Tolson, Mrs. Hazel
Stubbs and Miss Annette Fra
zier were the co-hostesses and
arrangers for the reunion.
