“Can I go home for Christmas?”
That is the plea of tens of thousands of hospitalized
children at this time of year. Too often the doctor's
answer must be a regretful, “no.”
But among the lucky ones who made it Jast Christmas
was Sarah Rauchbauer, 7, of St. Paul, Minn. After seven
long months of racking.
pains due to rheumatoid
arthritis, Sarah posed the
q}llxestion to her doctors at
the University of Minne
sota Children’s Rheumatism
Clinie, which is supported
by the March of Dimes.
The doctors hesitated to say
yes because Sarah had been
making such good progress in
the hospital—after being a very
sick little girl, and in great
pain, for many dreary days and
nights.
Finally, Dr. Homer Venters
(above, right) carefully exam

with his colleagues, and de

THE COVINGTON NEWS
Add a Room to Your Home
— And a Lot More Too!
Through the simple addition
of a single room to your home,
you may automatically acquire
a host of “extras” in several
worthwhile areas.
For example, you can:
1. Achieve better balance and
appearance of the exterior con
tours of the house.
2. Enjoy a pleasant blend of
outdoor-indoor living,
3. Make good use of an other
wise idle yard area.
4. Relieve overcrowded con
ditions in the main house.
5. Provide an attractive spot
that will be stimulating to the
senses and soothing to t h e
nerves.
All this —for the compara
tively small price of bringing
one additional room into being.
According to the Southern Pine
Association, an effective, eco
nomical means of doing the job
is to use wood plank-and-beam
construction. ‘
Many remodeling contractors
and retail lumber dealers with
home improvement departments
do this sort of work. Quite fre
quently, they offer materials,
contracting and financing 21l in
a single package. |
The plank-and-beam system
is a simple, functional form
which utilizes the solid strength
and appearance of lumber. The
low lines and flat roof blend
well with other architectural
styles. If the original house
seems too high and narrow, as
many old homes are, the addi
tion will provide better overall
proportions, help bring t h e
house “down to earth.”
The structure involves littiz
more than vertical posts a n d
horizontally laid ceiling beams
crowned with a canopy of two
inch thick lumber, called “roof
decking.” All wood can be
beautifully finished and ex
posed on the interior. New stain
type finishes will provide any
color the owner desires, yet
lassociates, successors and as
signs, are hereby incorporated
and made a body politic under
the name and style of “COV
AIR, INC.” for and during the
period of 35 years, with the
privilege of renewal at the ex
piration of that time, and with
all the rights, powers, privi
leges and immunities mention
ed in said application, and with
such additional rights, powers,
privileges and immunities are
as provided by the laws of
Georgia as they now exist or
may hereafter exist.
