It seems almost like spring on
this beautiful Tuesday morning,
as we begin to snoop around on
Salem people in order to pass along
to the reader the events that have
taken place in the past week. The
sickness i foremost in the NEWS
this week, for Mrs Minnie Word
entered Crawford lying Hospital
on Saturday very ill and will oro
bablv have surgery as soon as the

Jeff Ramsey has a host of
friends throughout Newton County
who will regret to learn that he
is a patient at Athens General Hos
pital after suffering a heart
attack. Mr. and Mrs. G W. Ram
sey visited "Uncle Jeff” (as we all
know him) on Sunday afternoon.
There is a brighter side to the
story of sickness however, far
Carl Penn has recovered
sufficiently from his surgery that
he and Mrs. Penn have returned
to their home in Salem.
Mr. and Mrs. Charles Rooks
111 of Jackson spent the weekend
with Mrs. Callie Stallsworth
The Vess Farmers had his sister
and her family from Alabama for
a long weekend visit.
Mr and Mrs. John Addison and
son. Johnny had as their weekend
guests his parents from Lavonia.
Mrs. P B Ellington was joined
by Mr. and Mrs. P. J. Rogers Sr.
and Mrs Robt. Vining all of Deca
tur and they attended the birthday
dinner honoring Mrs. Temple
Lewis’ 89 birthday last Tuesday
at Mrs. Lewis’ home on Jackson
Highway
Mrs. Lola Knight visited Mrs.
Manson Miller. Sunday afternoon.
On Friday. Mrs. Homer Grier and
Mrs. Jack Standard of Oxford
were guests of Mrs. Miller.
Mr. and Mrs. Douglas Yancey
visited Dr. and Mrs. J. E. Taylor
Jr. and their family, Sunday.
Also they called on Rev. and Mrs.
C C Buckalew on Stone Moun
tain Road, whose son Douglas was
killed in an automobile accident
last week. Rev. and Mrs. Bucka
lew has a host of friends In this
section, who will be interested in

Securing the »rW series of enemy pooittees, Dodd again reorganieed
his platoon end ted them across o earrow ridge and onto Hill 254.
Firing hie rite and throwing grenades, he advanced al the head et

When his platoon was still 200 yards oway from the obiective, he
moved ahead and with his lasi grenade destroyed an enemy mortar,
killing tee crow.

The group was returning from 48
Hospital, where they had been to
visit Ernest Holcombe, who has
been a patient there for several
weeks. Our best wishes for a
speedy recovery goes to Mr. Hol
combe who spent many years in
Salem.
