■ Doctors and nurses can watch .

The hospital is also the best

Work Injuries
In 1961 Show
Slight Decline
WASHINGTON, D C. -
Death-, and disabling injuries
resulting from work accidents
declined in 1961. There were j
approximately 13,500 deaths
and 1,930,000 disabling injuries,
according to preliminary esti
mates prepared by the U. S. La
bor Department’s Bureau of La
bor Statistics, In 1960 there
were 13,800 deaths and 1,950,-
000 disabling injuries
The rate of dis-abling injuries
for the year was 30.1 per 1,000
workers, as compared with 30.4
in 1960. The only othor lower
rate on record was 29.6, in 1958.
Deaths occurred at a rate of 21
per 100,000 workers, a record
low.
Each of the injuries mclttdcd
in those estimates disabled the
worker for at least 1 full day
or more. Approximately 80.500
injuries resulted in some per
manent physical impairment,
ranging from the partial loss of j
the use of a finger or toe to
complete inability to work at
any gainful employment.
Altogether, these injuries and 1
deaths resulted in about 40 mil- j
lion man-days of disability dur
ing 1961, When the future ef
fects of the deaths and perma
nent impairments are evaluat
ed and added to the immediate
loss, the total amounts to about
163 million man-days Os disa
bility. This is equivalent to a
year’a full - tune employment
■if about 525,000 workers.
