meeting was called to order by
the Regent, Mrs. Lyda Sue B.
Hall. The Chaplain. Miss Ethel
Belcher, prayer a special pray
er for our Nation.
Mrs. D. B. Dixon, recording
secretary, read the minutes of
the January' meeting. In the
absence of the corresponding
secretary, Mrs. Guy Rogers
gcive the reports, after which
she gave the treasurer’s report.
The message of Mrs. Doris Pike
White. President General of
NSDAR, was read by Miss
Sallie May Sockwell.

At Porterdale
The February meeting of the
Ethel Belcher Circle of the
Porterdale Methodist Church
met in the church with Mrs.
Tempie Berry as hostess.
There were nine members
present and one visitor, Mrs.
W. C. Ivey, president of t h e
Woman’s Society of Christian
Service.

February as American History
month. She gave a most inter
esting report on what the city
and county schools are ac
complishing in this phase of
education. She reported that
interest on the part of teach
ers was influencing the stu
dents to a high degree. She
also stated that all national
holidays were observed with
special programs.
The regent reported on the
lovely boxes of clothing sent to
Kate Duncon Smith and Ta
massee DAR Schools. The gar
ments not used in the school
will be sold and the proceeds
will be used on scholarships.
At the close of the meeting
the hostess assisted by Mrs.
Guy Rogers served a delicious
sweet course and coffee.

Mrs.' Aubra Sherwood had in
vited all three circles of the
church to meet in her home for
the February joint meeting.
Mrs. Annie Day gave a very
interesting study on “Latin
America Speaks”.
During the social hour the
hostess served cake, coffee and
nuts.

Mrs. Tom Bates Was Hostess to
Corrie Wright Circle Meeting
The Corrie Wright Circle of
the First Methodist Church
met at the home of Mrs. Tom
Bates on Acadamy Springs
Drive on Monday afternoon
with 12 members present.
Mrs. C. D. Ramsey, chair
man opened the meeting with
prayer. Mrs. Jack Meadors gave
the secretary's report and read
the minutes. Miss Lucy Banks
told of a morning meeting of
“The Twelve” to meet at her
home on Thursday morning at
nine forty-five o'clock. This
will enable those who cannot
attend the night sessions to
Flint Hill HD
Club Met Tues.
The Flint Hill Home Dem
onstration Club held its regu
lar monthly meeting at the
club house on February 20. The
meeting was called to order
by the president, Mrs. Jack
Hinton. The Homemaker’s
Creed was read in unison and
the devotional was given by
Mrs. George Berry and a pray
er was also read by Mrs. Berry.
There were 15 members pres
ent.
The minutes of the last meet
ing were read and approved
and the treasurer's report
given. Mrs. Harvey Eddleman
gave some fine noints on Dress
making and Clothing.
A bazaar was held at this
meeting with each member
bringing an article to the club
to sell among the members to
increase the treasury. The cor
respondent reporter, Mrs. Wil
liam Kimble, gave a report on
the get well cards, flowers
etc, that were sent people from
the club.
The district dress revue will
be held on March 22, at Forsy
th. Mrs. Carol McGiboney gave
an interesting demonstration
on Money Management and
Budgets.
During the social hour re
freshments were served by the
hostesses Mrs. Benny Knight
and Mrs. Hershel Curtis.
Mrs. B. T. Groome of Atlan
ta, arrived Wednesday for a
visit with the R. O. Arnolds.
During the weekend M r s.
Groome and Mrs. Arnold will
be joined by Mrs. Nelson Hoff
man for a motor trip to Char
lotte and Durham, N. C., where
Mrs. Groome formerly made
her home.

The next meeting will be

and Mrs. John Bob Weaver in
charge of the program.

fee.
23rd Conference
CAR Held in
Savannah
The 23rd Conference of the
State Society of the Children
of the American Revolution was
held at the DeSoto Hotel in Sa
vannah on February 16, 17 and
18. Hostesses with the Savan
nah Chapter were Colonel
Henry Lee, Boneventure and
Lachlon Mclntosh Chapters.
The Senior State President,
Mrs. D. V. Childs of Gray, call
ed the conference to order with
reports being given by various
officers. Michael Bower of the
Sergeant Newton Jr. Society,
served as color bearer and
gave the report of the state
chairman on the grave of the
Unknown Soldier as well as the
report of the local president,
Margaret Rape, in the absence
of Miss Rape.
Main speaker for the occa
sion was Colonel William L.
Travis. Members of the local
chapter present were Senior
President of the Sergeant New
ton Junior Society, Michael
Bower, treasurer and Margaret
Ann Bower, Flag Chairman.
Accompanying them were their
parents, Mr. and Mrs. James
A. Bower of Alma.

Barbara Grant
Miss Barbara Grant, bride -
elect of Saturday, was honored
last Thursday night with a bri
dal shower given by Miss Ka
ren Stone. Miss Melda Watkins
of Social Circle and Mrs. Jake
Hooten, at the lovely home of
Mrs. Hooten.
The loving room of the home
was beautifully decorated with
deep pink gladiolus and camel
lias. Gifts were artistically dis
played on an appropriate table
decorated with a shower um
brella.
The dining room table w a s
overlaid with a cutwork linen
cloth and centered with a large
crystal punch bowl embedded
in ivy and camellia blossoms.
Silver wedding bells on each
corner and silver containers of
open faced sandwiches, wed
ding motil individual cakes,
mints and nuts completed the
table decorations.
The honoree chose for the
occasion an orange hop aching
dress fashioned with a fitted
bodice and full skirt. With this
she wore matching shoes.

terson on Friday evening, Feb
ruary 16, at seven - thirty with

conducted by Mrs. Alice Pat

enjoyable evening.
