As President of the Newton

our outstanding projects for
this year. Our first fall project
was a booth at the Newton

ways has a separate booth from
the regular 4-H exhibit booth

SCHOOL NEWS
’ Seventh Grade
Each six weeks period our
class takes time out to review
some of the many, many ex
periances we have had during
the school days.
This period was no exception.
‘When the English compositions
were handed in we all began
to realize how many new ex
periences we had had and how
many new friends we had met..
We want to thank Miss Clara
Mae Hays, Mr. E. D. Whatley,
Mr. Donald Ballard and Mr.
“Buck” Bouchillon for their
help this six weeks.
Now read on for the details—
School Days
By Sheila Bates
One of the highlights of this
last six weeks was visiting the
State Capitol of Georgia. There,
we saw the Senate and the
House of Representatives in
session. We admired the beau
ty of our state's capitol and
were very proud of it. Also, we
collected some very useful ma
terial for our Georgia History
scrapbooks.
In science we have been
studying the weather. Along
the way we have done many
experiments. Did you know
that there are four types of
clouds?
Our History class was also
something to look forward to
each day. We have learned 75
of our Georgia counties and
are going to learn all 159.
Seventh grade math is not so
hard after all. “Not if you keep
up your work”, says Mr. Bo
hanan, our math teacher, and
he’s right! We have been study
ing how to find interest.
You'd be surprised at the
many, many different ways.
Throughout the year, we have
had lots of fun at our regular
monthly council meetings. One
of our council meetings fell on
Halloween and many came in
costume for the occasion. To
fit the mood our program wais
centered around ghost stor
ies, witches and Halloween
pranks. We had a jack-o-lan
tern and a Halloween cake, We
even bobbed for apples. In De
cember, we had a Christmas
Party. Once we had a birthday
party, celebrating our adult
‘leader, Mr. Hargrove’s birth
‘day, complete with cake and
everything.
The biggest event of the
year, I guess, was our Annual
Banquet held in January. It
was, indeed, the best banquet
we had ever had. About 34
4-H'ers received awards with
over 200 parents, leaders and
friends sharing in the program.
Several adult leaders also re
ceived plaques for out-stand
ing service. We had a very in
teresting speaker for the even
ing. We all had a very won
derful time.
Our most recent project is
encouraging observance of Na
tional 4-H Club Week. Most of
the clubs throughout the coun
ty have put displays in local
store windows. 4-H Sunday
programs have been held in our
churches.
All of this is helping others
see what 4-H means to us and
what a worth-while organiza
tion the 4-H Club really is.

Our Adventures in a
School of Knowledge
By Ronnie Kitchens
Palmer Stone School is the
school 1 prefer, for I enjoy it
all of the time, This past six
weeks has been especially fun
because we have done a vari
ety of exciting things.
First, the flu bug hit us, so
practically all of the class was
absent when Miss Clara May
Hayes, Newton County’s Visit
ing Teacher, gave an interest
ing talk based on the compul
sory school attendance law. ‘
Only a short time ago in his
tory, we studied about the Sun
day Lady of Possum Trot,
Martha Berry. She started
school called Berry School,
which our principal attended.
He brought a scrapbook and a
map of the campus and told us
about his childhood school.
Also, in history, we took up
the Legislative and process of
a bill becoming a law. To make
our studies easier, we took a
whole day off from school and
went on a trip to the state cap
itol to listen to the House and
Senate in session. That day we
were lucky because we got out
of a test.
A few days ago we wasted
most of the day waiting for
Glenn to take off and come
back, I'm glad he is all right.
This has been six weeks full
of fun and studying—six weeks
full of adventures in a typical
grammar school of knowledge.
Our Past Six Weeks
By Glenda Repetske
Our seventh grade has been
very busy this six weeks. One
day Miss Hayes, Newton Coun
ty's visiting teacher, came to
our room. She told us all about
the visiting teacher program,
| why it was founded, what it
| does and many other interest
| ing things.
' Another day we went to the
| State Capitol. We saw the Sen
.| ate, House of Representatives,
| the museum in the Capitol and
the other beautiful sights there.
.| In the General Assembly, the
| House was debating and the
| Senate was going through the
| first part of the second reading
| of a bill.
\ Mr. Whatley took some of
| his time to tell us about the
| Martha Berry College and of
| his years there. |
‘ We had a lot of fun at our
| valentine party. Our grade
| mothers helped us with it. As
|you can easily see we have
combined pleasure with our |
| work. {
