March Meeting of Covington Garden
Club Held at Home of Mrs. Turner
The March meeting of t h e
Covington Garden Club was
held Wednesday March 7th at
the home of Mrs. N. S. Turner.
Co-hostesses were Mrs. L C.
Gibson and Mrs. Godfrey Tram
mell.
Upon arrival the members
enjoyed delicious refreshments
served from the beautifully
appointed tea table — Mrs.
Trammell poured coffee. Mrs.
Yeon B. Rosseau of Penn., sister
of club member, Mrs. Arthur
Henderson, was a welcome vis
itor.
Mrs. R. P Campbell, presi
dent, called the meeting to or
der after which Mrs. Spence
Ramsey, chaplain, read a poem
appropriate for the theme of
study “Garden Therapy”. Mrs.
L. C. Gibson then introduced
Mr. Newsome from the Mil
ledgeville State Hospital Gar
den Therapy Dept, as speaker
for the afternoon. Mr. New
some, dedicated to his work.

home of Mrs. W H. Harris
with Mrs. Manon Head as co
hostess.

An intriguing composition in

the hall, and was composed
| of love birds, miniature brides
; maids, wedding rings and val
ley lilies, flanked by single sil
ver candelabra holding white
tapers.
Spring garden flowers in
cluding forsythia, narcissi, daf
fodils and spirea were used ef
fectively at vantage points in
the living room.
The buffet table, from t h e
delicious luncheon was served,
was covered with lace edged
nylon net posed over nile green
satin, and centered with a silver
epergne of white glads, snap
dragons and snowflake chry
santhemums interspersed with
plumosis fern, of which love
birds perched in white flower
ing peach branches, formed the
focal point. Miniature bride and
groom accessories further key
noted the nuptial theme.
Mrs. Stone Was Gracious Hostess
To Green Thumb Garden Club Meeting
The March meeting of the
Green Thumb Garden Club
was held Wednesday morning
at the lovely lakeside home of
Mrs. Dixie Stone, with 16
members and three visitors
present. Mrs. Carl Smith, a
former member; Mrs. Ann Cox,
of Social Circle, able lecture and
conductor of the workshop and
Mrs. Lois Achenbacher, also of
Social Circle, were welcomed
guests.
Mrs. Cox made suggestive ar
rangements and answered
questions concerning the flower
show.
Mrs. Lula Vaughn, presi
dent, opened the business meet
ing and presided during the
transaction of business. Plans
were made for the president to
attend the Garden Club Con
vention, which will be held at
Jekyll Island on April 4, 5 and
6.

man of the nominating com
mittee, presented the follow
ing slate of officers for the
1962-63 season: President, Mrs.
Lula Vaughn; first vice-presi
dent, Mrs. Louise Armstrong;

Dinner by Billy Smith and Parents
A delightful dinner party at
which Billy Smith was joined
as hosts by his parents, Mr.
and Mrs. Carl Smith at their
lakeside home, on Saturday
evening, was among a number
of festive occasions currently
honoring Miss Virginia Ann
Smith and Harold Hoffman,
whose marriage will be an
event of early April.
A three tiered, pedestal ar
rangement of pink and white
camellias lent floral interest in
the foyer of the attractive set
ting.
Spring flowers, including
daffodils, forsythia, spirea and
narcissi were used effectively
in informal arrangements in
the recreation room.
The wedding motif was charm
ingly keynoted in the living -
dining area, where a large
brandy sniffer of pink and
: white camellias held a base ar
rangement of white wedding
bells tied with white satin rib
bons, which extended the cos

followed with 14 members en
joying the fellowship of meet
ing together.
The April meeting will be
held with Mrs. George Stud
dard and Mrs. Sally Hawkins.
Centerpieces of small tables
overlaid with Madeira, where
covers were laid for guests,
consisted of lace doily ruffled
nosegays of Chinese sacred lilies
and single blue hyacinths, ac
cented by miniature canaries.
Miss Smith chose a costume
suit in coral with which she
wore black accessories, and a
white carnation corsage, pre
sented her by the hostess. As
a memento of the occasion,
Mrs. Campbell also presented
the bride-to-be with a piece of
china in her chosen pattern.
In the games which followed
the luncheon, Mrs. Jack Bracy
of Decatur won top score, and
Mrs. B. L. Johnson drew bin
go.

The Flower Show will be
held at the E. L. Ficquett
School on Wednesday, April
4. Advance tickets are on sale
from any Garden Club mem
bers for 25 cents for adults and
10 cents for children.

and Grace Phillips served de
licious box lunches.

The club project is planting
shrubs at E. L. Ficquett School
and we are indebted to Mrs. E.
L. Ficquett for donating some
shrubs, Mr. R. R. Fowler, fer
tilizer and Mr. Robert Jaycey
for advice and labor furnished
in arranging, planting and
pruning the shrubbery. The
club expresses their sincere
thanks to each of these.

bells, similarly tied.
The honoree, who wore a Dior
blue floral print in silk, was
presented with a piece of
china in her chosen pattern, by
her hosts.
