BLAB SLAB
THIS AND THAT ABOUT TOWN!
Rev. Edgar Callaway is quite a sports booster in our
city and he has recently taken to bowling as a sport of his
own. He was voted by his fellow ministers as the “most im
proved bowler” at a session at one of the local lanes . . .
Billy Shepherd of the American League Covington Braves
LL team last year, received the Elks Club Trophy as the
outstanding player in the loop in 1961 .... The leconte
thrasher (a bird) can run (not fly) faster than a race horse.
Now let me see how my arithmetic is today. Eddie Ar
caro, the famous jockey who retired recently, had ridden
horses that earned $30,000,000 in his 27 years. He got 10% of
that amount which should be $3,000,000 . . . Why in the
world would a prize-fighter change his name from William
Butler to Yama Bahama? That's what happened to the
boxer Bahama . . . The Atlanta Crackers lost two baseball
games Sunday at Ponce de Leon Park, but they literally
“went down swinging.” The scores were 19-5 and 16-2, but
the fist-fight that enlivened the first game was a different
story . . .
The Atlanta Crackers, completing their first home stand
of the 1962 season, opened a series in Buffalo yesterday
(Wednesday) afternoon. The Crackers will be back at Poncey

In just one week the Crackers went from first place in
the International loop standing to sixth. They lost five
