these courses which include

affiliation of dependable fu

This ia the fourth year that
the Harwell firm has been au
thorized to make use of the
identifying Symbol of the Or
der, with which most of our
readers are undoubtedly fa
miliar.
The Symbol represents an
armored knight holding a shield
in one hand, a drawn sword in
the other. Upon the shield ap
pears tha motto of the Order:
"Service Measured Not by
GOLD, but by the GOLDEN
RULE.”
Members of the Order num
ber more than a thousand, so
that in nearly any community
one may find a funeral director
who has subscribed to the Creed
of the Order, and who may be
readily identified by his use of
the Symbol described above.
The paramount purpose of
the Order of the Golden Rule is
to accept for membership fun
eral directors who render a
modern and comprehensive ser
vice to humanity at a moderate
price.
Elsewhere in this issue ap
pears the formal announcement
of the J. C. Harwell A Son

Concerning the State Hos
pital which was founded in
1842 with one building, forty
acres of land and 10 patients,
the students gave significant
data about improvements. It is
now the second largest mental
hospital in the world in point of
resident patient population.
There are a total of 135 build
ings. The total number of resi
dent patients in the hospital is
12,000 with an additional 2600
on furlough.
There are 2600 employees
which include 72 doctors, 73
registered nurses, 1456 attend

6 clinical psychologists, and 8
social workers.
The campus consists of ap
proximately 1000 acres of land
with additional 540 acres in
farm crops, 2000 acres in pas
tures, 2600 acres in- woodland.
The hospital produces nearly
everything it needs on its own
farm system. Thirty eight hun
dred broilers are produced in
the chicken houses every week
and from the laying pens come
400 dozen eggs each day.
The average number of new
patients admitted per month
increased last year by 23 per
cent. Admissions are now to
talling 400 per month. Geor
gians have increased confidence
in the new treatment program
through which the hospital is
discharging 6 out of 10 patients
in 90 days and 8 out of 10
within the year.
