Covington Elkadette Club Met Mon.;
Two New Members Welcomed Into Club
The Covington Elkadettes
No. 1806, met Monday night
May 28, at the Elks Club. The
meeting was called to order by
the president, Mrs. Jack Allen
and members read the collect
together.
Two new members were wel
comed, minutes were read and
21 answered roll call, after
which the treasurer's report
was given.
Mrs. Allen reported that six
members attended open house
at Elk’s Aidmore Hospital on
Sunday, April 29.
The Elks barbecue for the
benefit of the Aidmore Hos-
Wa'll be here today and tomorrow too, to help you with

Mrs. E. J. Brown Was Hostess to
Susie B. Stone Circle Meeting
The Susie B. Stone Circle of
the Allen Memorial Church met
at the home of Mrs. E, J.
Brown for the May meeting,
with the Chairman. Mrs. Char
les Burnette, presiding. The
meeting was called to order by
the reading of a poem, “Trea
sured Wealth”, and a prayer
from a copy of Ideals.
Miss Rebecca Weldon, trea
surer, reported $45 paid on
pledges and $17.75 to the Len
ten offering. Miss Emtnalise
Stone gave $5. to the circle on
Mother’s Day in memory of
her mother, for whom the cir
cle is named. This was added
to the Lenten offering. The
circle gave sl. to defray ex
penses incurred on the Day
Apart.
Mrs. Brown thanked Mrs.
Lancaster for putting flowers
in the church for the circle
during the recent revival. The
group discussed the possibility
of a revised plan for nursery
duties. Suggestions to be pre
sented to the Executive Board I
Mrs. Gene Whatley Was Hostess to
May Meeting of The Amitie Club
The Amitie Club of Oxford
met at the home of Mrs. Gene
Whatley for the May meeting
and installation service.
The president, Mrs. Clyde
Webb, presided during the
business meeting and the trea
surer reported $186.71 on hand.
A letter was read from the
Student Body of Newton High
School thanking the club mem
bers for the SIOO. given to
them to improve the Science
Department of the high school.
Mrs. Webb announced an
executive board meeting at
her home May 21, for the pur
pose of drawing up the year
book and making plans for
1962-63. Mrs. Webb presented
Mrs. Charles Ellis, Mrs. Jack
Ellis and Mrs. Gene Whatley
gifts as perfect attendance
awards.

sented the program of the even

pledge service. The topic used.
“Our Mission Today”. The four
Quandrennial Emphasis for
1960-64, were presented and
discussed by members of t h e
group.
Mrs. John Gregory present
ed the 1962-63 budget proposed
by the finance committee. Mrs.
Murphy passed the pledge
, cards. The purpose of the
WSCS was read in unison,
cards were signed and turned
over to the treasurer and the
meeting closed with the bene
diction.
The group was invited into
the dining room where punch,
cake, assorted salted crackers
and nuts were served from a
beautifully appointed table.

a token of appreciation for her
leadership in 1961-62. She
closed the service with a pray
er for Friendship taken from
a collection of Peter Marshall's
Prayers.
Officers installed for the
new year were; Mrs. Clyde
Webb, President; Mrs. Herbert
Katz, Vice - President; Mrs.
Gene Whatley, Treasurer; Mrs.
Cecil T. Allgood, Secretary.
The June meeting will be
held at the home of Mrs. G. D.
Lancaster.
A sweet course was served
during the social hour.
Porterdale Girl
Reserves Enjoy
Annual Picnic
PORTERDALE — The Maud
King Girl Reserves Group No.
1 went on their annual trip to
Indian Springs on Saturday,
May 28. They chose Mr. Bill
Austin's bus as their best mode
of transportation, and they had
a happy time singing all the
way there.
After trying out all the rides
and spending most of their
money, they were ready for
lunch. Mrs. Effie Boyd had
prepared a wonderful lunch of
fried chicken, deviled eggs,
potato salad, peanut butter,
ham, and pimento cheese sand
wiches, potato chips, pickles,
olives, cup cakes, and lemon
ade.
Mrs. J. W. Loyd and Miss
Ruby Lane were with the
group in addition to then
leader, Miss Lucy Robinson.
After luneh, the children
who are second and third
grade pupils, rode other rides
and spent the rest of their
money for aouvenirs for the
folks at home.
The group returned home at
three o’clock, tired but very
happy.

NEWS
Cub Scout Den 1
Covington Mills Cub Scout
Den I met Thursday, May 17.
The meeting was opened with
roll call and repeating the
Lord’s Prayer, with Billy Moo
ney leading.
We told some jokes and
played games. Our den mother
brought a game and a real alli
gator in alcohol. We are prac
ticing some songs for our next
pack meeting. All the boys were
requested to wear their uni
forms at the next den meeting
and reminded to keep working
on their achievements. We wel
come Charles Chapman and
Melvin Singley in our den.
Refreshments were served
and the meeting was dismissed
with the living circle.

order and gave the devotional.

county agent.

was repeated by the group.

served by Mrs. C. A. Cason and
Mrs. Johnnie Reagan.
