ATTEND CHURCH SUNDAY
Layona Glenn
Says . . .
Greetings from All ant ic
City! Wish you were all here
to watch from my windows
the waves roll in from the
broad Atlantic, and break on
the "Board-Walk”. The Madi
son is one of the tallest of the
many hotels that make up big
business of this most noted
ocean resort.
Notwithstanding the fact
that the main business of the
town is entertainment of con
ventions and tourists and that
the ocean is the big attraction
that is the big attraction that
that is always played-up,—if
you were just set down on busy,
bustling Pacific Avenue with
its attractive shops of every
discription, its continuous flow
of traffic controlled by the usu
altraffic lights and policemen,
with cross streets carrying al
most as much movement as the
main thoroughfare, you would
hardly dream that only a block
to the East, paralling your
street ran the Boardwalk that
in your mind had represented
all there was to the city! It
surprises you to find that you
can step to the corner and get
aboard one of the cute little
“Jitneys” that roll by every
few minutes, and for 20 cents
ride the mile or so to the Con
vention Hall, instead of having
to either walk the long dis
tance, take a taxi, or hire an
expensive man-pushed rolling
chair to get to your meeting.
The convention hall aston
ishes you by 7 its immensity.
You are amazed to find two or
three huge conventions can
convene in it at the same time
and not interfere with each
other.
Just at this time while the
Woman’s Society of Christian
Service, with its thousands of
delegates and visitors from all
over the USA and overseas is
holding its general “Assemb
ly”, on one level, another con
vention of some kind with
other thousands in attendance
is being held on another level.
Neither interfering with or in
conveniencing the other.
I guess I’d better say that
my trip was started by my
good neighbor, Mrs. John Led
better, taking me to Hapeville
Sunday afternoon and deposit
ing me in the lovely home of
my other good friends, Mr.
and Mrs. Lamar Jinkins. There
to my surprise I found our
