Brood Cows
Brood cows are often more
underfed than overfed. This is
a true picture on many farms,
but we should keep in mina
that we can get them too fat.
If the brood cow is in good
condition she will produce cal
ves more regularly and will
raise heavier calves. Needless
to say, this is what you want.
If you develop replacement
heifers for your herd make sure
that the heifers are well devel
oped for their age. It is good to
breed the well developed hei
fers at 15 or 16 months of age,
but if the heifer is not in a
thrifty condition it is best to
wait until she is nearly two
years old.
