Met at Home

Circle II of the First Pres
byterian Church met Tuesday
morning at the home of Mrs.
Mamie Collier with Miss Julia
Aiken as co-hostess. There
were seven members and seven
visitors present. Twenty visits
were reported for the month.
The meeting was opened
with prayer by Mrs. Hugh
King. Miss Lucy Banks con
ducted the Bible Study on the
subject of “Ixiok at the Patient
Farmer” taken from the book
of James.
Plans were made for a com
mittee from the circle to serve
drinks to the Bible School
group one day during the ses
sion.- A dessert course was
served by the hostesses during
' the social hour.

Members Are Assigned Circles
The Woman's Society of
Christian Service of the Cov
ington First Methodist Church
met in the Fellowship Hall of
the church on Monday, June 4,
with Mrs. Ben Banks, presi
dent presiding.
Following a musical prelude,
the group sang, “In The Gar
den” and were led in prayer
by Mrs. Banks.
The treasurer, Mrs. A. D.
Jordan, gave her report. The
secretary, Mrs. Sam Gainer,
read her minutes and they
were approved.
The president gave a report
on the program at Family
Night honoring the high school
graduates. S>he stated that the
Woman's Society of Christian
Service would like to make
this special program ah annual
event.

The president turned the
meeting over to Miss Lucy
Banks, program chairman for
the afternoon. An attractive
and very appropriate worship
1 center was used showing a
picture of a group being com
-1 missioned as deaconesses.
The theme for the program
was entitled "■Call To Serve"
i and the scripture used was
from the sixth chapter of Isai
ah. A group participation pro
gram of questions and answers
added greatly to the interest
in the program. Miss Banks
closed the program with a
i story from the “Methodist Wo
man” concerning the first Af
rican Deaconess to graduate
and go into service.
Queen Crowned
At Mansfield
Church Ceremony
A very impressive service
was held at the Mansfield Bap
tist Church on Sunday, May 20,
when two Girls Auxiliary mem
bers were crowned “Queen”
and one girl recognized as
“Princess”, in Coronation ser
vices.
Mrs. J. H. Dennis, Counsel
lor, has done an excellent job
in working with the girls. The
theme. “The World in O u r
Hearts”, was emphasized in a
hugh gold heart at the back
of the rostrum with a globe of
the world at the base. Green
and white streamers from the
heart to the choir rail symbo
lized the colors of the organ
ization.
Appropriate music for t h e
service was rendered by Mrs.
James Benton, organist. The
program for the evening was
opened with the song, “I’m a
Child of the King”, with de
votional given by Rev. John
Meeks. “The World in Our
Hearts”. After the song, “We’ve
a Story to Tell to the Nations”,
the processional was as follows:

diately after the service with
refreshments served by the
WMU members of the church.
Buffet Supper
At Mansfield
Honors Mr. Flynt
Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Hays
and Mrs. H. C. Robertson en
tertained Hon. John J. Flynt
Jr., guest speaker at the gra
duating exercises of Mansfield
School Friday evening, with a
buffet supper prior to the ser
vices. Also honored at this time
were the members of the Mans
field School Faculty who were
also guests at the Hays home.
The buffet table was overlaid
with a white cutwork cloth and
held as its central arrangement
a container of yellow mums.
Smaller tables assembled so r
seating guests were also over
laid with white damask cloths
and smaller arrangements of
vellow mums, the school colors,
were placed on each table.
Those enjoying the occasion
were Hon. John J. Flynt, Jr.,
Mr. and Mrs. Harvey kitchens,
Mr. and Mrs. L. L. Harwell, Mrs.
James A. Prosser. Miss Edith
Johnston, Mrs. Melba H. Spears,
Mr. and Mrs. Hays and Mrs.
Robertson.

Clubs, at a tea on Sunday af
ternoon, June 10, from 4-6
p. m. at the home of Dr. and

Drive. Friends are cordially in

Meeting at Home of Mrs Murphy

Branham Circle of the Oxford
WSCS held the May meeting
at the parsonage with Mrs. (
Walter Murphy as hostess.
The meeting was called to
order b? the chairman, Mrs.
J. M Jacobs. After the open
ing prayer, the treasurer gave
an encouraging financial re
port. The circle decided to con
tribute to a fund in the WSCS
to be used for local work.
Mrs. Murphy had charge of
the program. She gave an in
spiring inspirational talk on
“Giving Yourself”, then con
ducted an impressive pledge
service after which she closed
