Says . . .
On reading the discussions
about the recognition of God
by our people by the reading
of the Bible, and having pray

ruling of our Supreme Court
against such action, I am fill
ed with amazement at the in
ccns stency of the human mind.
With all of their faults and
imperfections the founders of
our nation had a profound
faith in God, and the desire to
establish a government for
themselves and their descen

freedom to worship God ac-

cording to the dictates of their
own hearts.
We. their children, in large
part, share their recognition of
God as the Supreme Being to
whom we owe the success that
has come to our country. The
majority of our people accept
and approve of the freedom to
enjoy our spiritual heritage.
1 am glad that, at least, one
of the nine members of the
Supreme Court, Justice Potter
Stewart, had the courage to
say that the Court has mis
applied a great constitutional
principle. He said: “I cannot
see how official religion is es
tablished by letting those who
want to say a prayer say it!”
This effort to divert our
public schools of the oppor
tunity to honor God by offer
ing up a prayer and reading
a portion of His word suggests
to my mind the picture of a
man standing on a tiny point
of solid rock surrounded by
an ocean, with no other land
in sight, and with no other
hope in view, trying to use a
puny pick to cut the rock out
from under his own feet.
Let us not be so foolish as to
try to deprive our children of
the heritage we received from
our forefathers, but rather let
us teach them to appreciate
the freedom to worship God
the Creator of all the universe
and our Redeemer. “Teach
them to honor and trust Him.
and let them rejoice and
sing”.
“On Christ the solid rock I
stand,
All other ground is sinking
sand!”
