Miss Bryant and Bridesmaids Feted at
Thursday Luncheon at Welaunee Hotel
Included in the round of pre
nuptial social events for which
the marriage of Miss Carol
Bryant and Robert Mitchell was
the inspiration, was the brides
maids’ luncheon given by Mrs.
Dan Clower and daughter, Miss
Lynn Clower, and Mrs. Chub
Ivey and daughter, Miss Bever
ly McDonald, at the Elks Club
on Saturday.
Pink and white formed the
occasion's color scheme. The
luncheon table, overlaid with
white linen, was centered with
• white ceramic compote of
summer cut flowers in pink
hues. Favor* were miniature,
pink nylon net bags of rice tied
with pink satin ribbon. A lar
ger rice bag marked the bride’s
- to-be cover.
Miss Bryant, who wore a
white eylet embroidery sheath,
over romance blue, with a
white carnation corsage, gift of
the hostesses, was also present
ed with silver in her chosen
pattern, as a memento of the'

former roommates of Mr. Hin

luncheon at Welaunee Hotel on
Thursday, at winch Mrs. W. W.
Crowe entertained in compli
ment to Miss Frances Mitchell
and Miss Carol Bryant, recent
summer brides.

where guests assembled fea
tured arrangements of white
stock and butterfly chrysanthe
mums.
The luncheon table, overlaid
with white cutwork embroider
ed cloth, was centered with an
elongated arrangement of ru
brum lilies and lavender dah
lias in a pink ceramic contain
er.
For the occasion Miss Bryant
chose a pink sattoton dress with
full skirt and sculptured bodice
with lace and embroidered pan
els with matching hatlet; and
Miss Mitchell wore a polished
cotton sheath, with white pill
box hat and accessories. Both
wore white carnation corsages
with which they were present
ed by the hostess. They were
also recipients of gifts com
memorating their weddings,
from the Crows.
Included in the luncheon’s
guest list were: Mrs. J. B. Mit
chell and Mrs. T. C Bryant,
mothers of the honorees; Mes
dames James Darby, Philip
Hathcock, James Rogers.

Program Held
The Woman s Missionary So
ciety of Hopewell Presbyterian
Church held their Day of
Prayer and Self Denial Pro
gram and Foreign Mission
Study at the Educational
Building. Tuesday, July 24.
The Foreign Mission Secre
tary, Miss Sue McDonald gave
the highlights of the Foreign
Mission Study in a most inter
esting way. Miss McDonald
then introduced Dr. Charles E.
Edwards of Ist Associate Re
formed Presbyterian Church
in Atlanta, who gave the study
on ‘‘Self Denial" which was
very heart searching. Dr. Ed
wards followed with prayer.
The Self Denial Offering was
very generous.
At noon a delicious lunch
was enjoyed by all present.
Brides-Elect Honored at Shower-Tea
At Welaunee Hotel in Porterdale
Misses Carol Bryant and
Frances Mitchell, brides - elect,
were recently honored with a
shower-tea at the Welaunee
Hotel in Porterdale, given by
Mrs. J. T. Hooten, Mrs. Otis
Spillers and Mrs. E. L. Smith.
Forming the receiving line to
welcome the approximately 100
guests were: Mrs. Nelson Al
len, wearing green silk organza
with a white carnation corsage;
Mrs. E. L. Smith, in a white
embroidered cotton with white
carnation corsage; Miss Fran
ces Mitchell selected a white
cotton sheath model for the oc
casion and wore a white glamel
lia corsage; Mrs. J. B. Mitchell,
mother of Miss Mitchell, wore
a green cotton and white
shoulder carnation corsage;
Miss Carol Bryant chose a white
cotton featuring a dainty lace
Susan Lord is
Honored on Her
Tenth Birthday
Miss Susan Lord was hon
ored with a birthday party Sat
urday afternoon in observance
of her 10th birthday, when her
mother, Mrs. Larry Lord, en
tertained at their home here.
A color scheme of pink and
white was carried out in the
decorations with the birthday
cake embossed in pink and
white and holding 10 pink can
dles centering the dining room
table, which was overlaid with
a white lace cloth.
Games and contests were en
joyed by the 20 girls and boys
present to help Susan enjoy the
occasion. Prior to refreshments
of ice cream and cake, the hon
oree opened her many gifts and
favors were given out to t h e
guests.

Mrs. Otis Spillers chose a beige
sheath with cocoa brown em
broidery. She also wore a white
carnation corsage.
The refreshment table was
overlaid with a white lace cloth
over green taffeta. Centering
the table was an arrangement
of white carnations, mums and
stock in a crystal container.
Punch was served from a sil
ver footen punch bowl featuring
a floating ice ring containing
small daisies. Dainty sandwich
es, petits fours and toasted nuts
were served from a silver trays
and bonbon dishes. Completing
the table’s appointments were
bridal napkins engraved in sil
ver with the names, Carol and
Frances, and the date July 14.
Artistic floral arrangements
were used at vantage points
throughout the room. Banquet
tables held for display the
many lovely gifts received by
the honorees.
