Woman’s Missionary meeting
was held at the home of Mrs.
Virgil Hitchcock on Floyd
Street on Thursday morning,
August 2nd. On arrival, punch
and cookies were served and
tne members and hostess wel
comed Mrs. Barbara Elliott as
a guest.
Mrs. Leo Mallard, Chairman
of the circle, opened the meet
ing with prayer and presided
over the meeting with Mrs.
M<bel Dennis bringing the de
votional, using as her basic
subject the 23 Psalms.
Miss Stella Coulter Was Honor Guest
At Elks Club Luncheon Wednesday
Miss Stella Coulter, who
leaches reading in Paris,
France, was honor guest at a
luncheon at the Elks Club
Wednesday, given by Mrs. Guy
Rogers.
The table for the delicious
three course dinner was decor

with new officers being elect
ed for the coming year. The

Beth Rhodes, Mrs. Miriam Hall,
Mrs. Barbara Elliott and Mrs.
Mabel Dennis. The meeting

Arnolds and Hays are Rehearsal Dinner
Hosts to Fowler-Peacock Wedding Party
Climaxing the gay whirl of
parties for which the Fowler-
Peacock wedding has been the
recent inspiration, was the din
ner party at which Mr. and
Mrs. Robert O. Arnold and
Mrs. Sam Burney Hay, Jr. were
joint hosts at the former cou
ple's home, immediately pre
ceding the wedding reh arsal on
Friday evening.
Mass arrangements of pink
and blue hydrangeas were us
ed effectively in the entrance
hall. The bridal theme was em
phasized in the living room
with a silver epergne holding
an all white arrangement of
gladiolus, stock, carnations and
tuberoses, interspersed with
fern tips.

Mr. and Mrs. Godfrey Tram
mell were genial hosts on Sat
urday morning, when they en
tertained with a breakfast at
their home, in honor of out-of
town guests for the Fowler-
Peacock wedding.
Double lavender alth ea s.

focal arrangement. Pink into
carmine roses were used on the
mantel.
The buffet table was center
ed with a three tiered server
of cantaloupe and peach slices,
grapes, and other colorful
fruits. A serving table held ad
ditional trays of coffee cakes
and other breakfast confec
tions.
The dining table held an
elongated arrangement of gol
den glow and yellow daisies.
Additional small tables for
seating guests, were overlaid
with white.
Covers were laid for twen
ty-two out-of-town guests for
the wedding.

Reunion Sunday
The annual reunion of t h e
family of John and Emma
Adams was held Sunday, Au
gust 5, at the Lions Club pa
vilion in Covington.
The history of the family was
read by Thomas Breedlove of
Monroe. This information is now
on record at the First National
Bank in Atlanta for everyone
to see and read.

July Meeting At The Church
PORTERDALE — The regu
lar meeting of the W.S.C.S. of
the Julia A. Porter Memorial
Methodist Church was held on
Monday evening, July 23, at
seven - thirty o’clock in the
sanctuary of the church. Mrs.
W. C. Ivey, president, called
the meeting to order by hav
ing the group sing “Work For
The Night Is Coming” after
which the Rev. A. D. Whitte
more led in prayer.
Mrs. Ivey reported that Mrs.
H. F. Higgins’ visit to the so
ciety to discuss the formation
of a Wesleyan Service Guild
had been postponed. Miss Grace
Lummus made a motion that
the discussion relative to form
ing a guild be abandoned. It
was seconded and passed by
the majority.
Minutes of the last meeting
were read and approved. The

ty and out of town guests, prior
to her wedding Saturday night.

en Friday in Monroe at the
home of Mrs. Harry Arnold,
Sr. Hostesses with Mrs. Arnold
were her daughter, Mrs. Ross
Hawkins and Mrs. Harry Ar

Met Saturday at

The Gleaner’s Sunday School
class of County Line Baptist
Church met at the home of
Mrs. B. F. Bloodworth, August
4. During the business session
it was reported the class would
soon meet the requirements of
standard class as set by the
State Sunday School Board.
Plans were made to help with
Homecoming activities.
It was reported that Mrs.
Lancaster, former teacher,
would be the guest teacher of
the class for Homecoming Day.
Mrs. Charles Moody was
welcomed as a guest and
brought a very interesting de
votional.
During the social hour prizes
in the fun contests and games
were won by Mrs. Yancey, Mrs.
Cook, Mrs. Moody and Mrs.
Steadham. Others present
were: Mrs. Stokes, Mrs. Hailey,
Mrs. Long, Mrs. Castleberry,
Mrs. Ogletree, Mrs. Loyd and
the hostess and teacher, Mrs.
Bloodworth.

Becky Strawn Was
Honoree at Swim
Party, Sunday
PORTERDALE — Mrs. Betty
Strawn honored her daughter,
Becky, on Sunday afternoon.
August 5. with a delightful
swimming party at the Porter
dale Swimming Pool from three
to five o’clock. Becky actually
celebrated her twelfth birth
day on Saturday, August 4, but
her mother chose Sunday for
the celebration at which her
friends joined in the happy en
tertainment. Immediately af
ter the refreshing swims, Mrs.
Strawn served delicious ham
burgers, Cokes, potato chips,
and the usual birthday cake on
the patio adjoining the pool.
Those who shared in the ac
tivities were: Donna Allgood.

Miss Fowler At Morning Party
A morning party at the home
of Mrs. Donald Stephenson,
who was joined as a hostess by
Mrs. Martin Goode, contributed
to the round of pre-nuptial
festivities, which have filled
the current social calendar, in
honor of Miss Florence Fowler,
bride of Saturday.
The nuptial theme was in
troduced by an all white ar
rangement of carnations, tube
roses and gladiolus in a silver
bowl, in the entrance hall.
Waxey magnolia blossoms
and foliage were used in the
piano arrangement in the liv
ing room, where a smaller ar
rangement of gardenias, Peru
vian daffodils, tuberoses and
stephanotis in a milk glass con
tainer, further emphasized the
bridal motif.

Miss Fowler, who wore a
textured cotton, two piece cos
tume in cyclamen with w r hite
trim, was presented with a
personal gift as a memento of
the occasion.

friends of the bride, including
her wedding attendants, made
up the morning party’s guest
