licity. She was a good friend
of the Georgia Press Associa
tion, and we all moaned her
death along with the others,
many of whom were also dear
to our hearts. On Tuesday night
there will be a special panel on
“School Drop Outs a d Pub
licity.” with Gene Goslee, of
Atlanta as Moderator, Jean
Rooney, Atlanta Constitution
and Ruth Kent, W. S. B. as
panelists. I am sure that every
member of the Women's Club’s
will attend this session. Mrs.
Hay has done a fine thing in
bringing this group to Oxford,
and we feel sure it will have
a great influence on Truant Of
ficers and those responsible for
watching for drop-outs in our
own schools. The main trouble,
in so many instances, is that
many are just not in school.
Neighbors could report the
children to the schools and this
would help solve the problem.
We must see that our children
have an education for we ere
living in a day of specializa
tion, as well as education. Jobs
cannot be obtained where a
girl or boy does not have a high
school education, and certainly
there are more lucrative posi
tions, where none but College
Graduates will be accepted. So
parents should join hands with
the teachers in helping their
children to be self-sustaining
citizens of tomorrow.
On August 10th, thousands of
people throughout this section
of the State, and thost former
residents of other states, will
be wending their way to Salem
Camp Ground, where a week of
the finest sermons will be de
livered by able men, pastors of
Methodist, Baptist, and Presby
terian Churches, as it is inter
denominational.
There will be special services
for the young people who al
ways attend, and there will be
special song services for them
also.
It is a wonderful experience'
to sit under this huge “tent”
as the wooden structure is call
ed, and look up at the hand
hewn logs. . . and sing “The
Faith of our Fathers.” Think of
how badly they wanted a
“meeting place” to worship
| God. . . how many today would
I go out and cut down huge trees,
hand hew them, and erect a
I church. It’s hard enough to gel
people to Titht their posses
sions, that really God put into
our hands to SEE how we
would use it. It’s hard enough
in many cases to get people to
give generously in order to
erect a church, or add an edu
cation building. But these men
gave of their time, and hard
labor to have a place to wor
ship. It has never been closed
but once, and that was during
the War Between the States.
So join your friends and neigh
bors and make your way to Sa
lem for a week of “old time re
ligion.” It is a real revival! The
beautiful hotel erected there
will be filled, as will the many
cottages, where families camp
for this week. The food at the
hotel is available to all who go,
and there is none better in all
the United States, when it
comes to good home cooking It
is a rare treat within itself. We
will meet you there.
The hearts of the community

Miss Mellie Pitts, and family
in the loss of their dear sister.
We know of no finer people
anywhere, and are rich to call
them our friends. This news
has just come to us. and our
hearts bleed with theirs in
their great loss,

bride this week. She fnd Jim

will be stationed for » y* B ^;
Java seems a long way “frum ’

will bring happiness, for never
was there a lovelier voice than
“Totsies,” nor a sweeter finer
girl. She’s the kind of daugh
ter we always longed for, one
whose sharing and caring, and |
Christian life made all happier
wherever she went. We are
rich in so many ways, even if
we, some of us, have no daugh
ters of our own. we have shar

daughters. Thats the joy ol a
small town, where wa know
each other. . . all our faults
sometimes and love each other
ju>t the same.
One thing I do not exactly
love is that office broom. . .
