August Set As
Share-The-Road
Month in State
August has been designated
as Share-the-Road month in
Georgia and throughout the na
tion.
“If you care, you’ll share,”
is a reminder from the Georgia
State Patrol. “Be on the look
out for mistakes of other driv
ers —and drive so as to insure
their safety as well as your
own.”
To share the road properly,
each driver must obey all traf
fic laws, signs and signals to
the letter, and follow the dic
tates of common sense and
courtesy, it was pointed out.

ington, who happens to be our
God-Child. It is a real inspira
tion to see a young person so
well rounded in her education,
and we are justly proud of
Julie Dattlebaum, who is divid
ing this week with us, and her
Aunts, Miss Sallie Mae Sock
well and Miss Sarah Moore.
My! Oh Me! Did you ever
wish there were about four of
you so you could divide your
time and be in four places at
the same time. Right now, with
a house guest, Salem and the
Club Institute, George Jeffer
son has just called me to let
me know of the wonderful
progress they are making at
the Colored Recreation Park.
They have worked untiringly
in raising money, yes, but they
have given of their time and
energy in getting this land
graded. They have paid for
many things, but it’s hard la
bor and time they have given
with their hearts in the work
that means so much. They now
have the merry-go-round,
swings and other playground
equipment erected. Covington
and Newton County will be
justly proud of this wonderful
park, and the people who have
given of their time, means and
interest in making it possible.
The entire NEWS force, and
all correspondents join in best
wishes for a speedy recovery
for Mrs. E. G. Switzer, Corre
spondent from Cedar Shoals,
who is ill at the home of her
daughter in Avondale, Ga. I
know each of you, who enjoy
her column in the NEWS will
want to send her a cheery “Get
Well” Card. Her address is in
care of Mrs. Frank Helton, 1097
Berkley Street, Avondale. Mrs.
Switzer is listed among the
oldest, in service of correspon
dents for the NEWS, and one
who is loved by all who know
her. Your Office Boy did not
know of her illness until yes
terday . . • and needless to say
our love and prayers for an
early recovery wend their way
to Avondale, right to her bed
side, and we hope she feels
them.
We realize how bad it is to
be shut in . . . while we are not
ill, still shut in a great deal,
with “tension” . . • its a won
derful word ... all the doctor s
just love it I know, for this is
what they’ve all called this
thing I do . . . just break out
all over with a rash . . . be
cause of “pent up” worry . . .
and anxiety . . but who
wouldn’t with a son still un
conscious after four months in
hospital! We strive to get out
and we will keep on doing so
j. . for thats what we have to
i do . . but this is one of those
weeks.
We went to Salem Sunday
I and heard a wonderful sermon
I . those of us who have been
going for 30 years and more
i grew to love those people . . .
' a few drop out each year for
l their home beyond . . and this
■ saddens the group. Beautiful
j tributes were paid to Mr. Jack
Elliott, Mr. Bob Elliott and my
own husband, Belmont Dennis.
Sunday in a sacred Memorial
Service.
Goodness gracious me . . .
time is fleeting .... and my
job has to go on . . . for this
office really needs . . .
