God’s Love Will Guide Us
Through The Dark Nights
Divine love is magnetic. It
pulls us toward that which is
honorable and noble. God in

of us a restless longing for God.
We can never be truly happy
until we give ourselves to Him.
St. Augustine expressed this
idea many centuries ago. He
asserted that we were made
for God and are restless until
we find rest in God.
When I was the pastor of the
University Methodist Church in
Havana, Cuba, a young Univer
sity student asked to see me at
the conclusion of one of our
morning worship services. I
asked him to meet me in t h e
study and as soon as 1 had
greeted those who were leaving
the church, I would talk with
him. He told me about h i s
early life. His parents never
went to church. They did not
even believe in God. “I am
restless,” he said, “and my life
has little purpose beyond gra
duating from law school, find
ing a suitable wife and living
a comfortable life. I have
been searching for something
and as I sat listening to your
sermon thia morning, I sud
denly became aware of the pre
sence of God. I want to know
this God of love that you
preached about this morning. I
believe God is my greatest
need.”. We talked and prayed
together and in the quietness
of my study he let G o d come
into his heart.
I never quite feel adequate
to preach the gospel. Every
time I mount the pulpit I al
ways pray that God will take
my feeble efforts and magnify
and use them to draw men and
women, boys and girls closer to
His will for their lives. God
took that sermon, poor as it

For Safe Motor Trip
Follow These Rules
FLINT, Mich. Your vacation trip this summer will be a lot safer
and more enjoyable if you will get plenty of rest each night and
limit your driving to 10 hours per day.
These are two of the most important rules followed by Buick test
drivers in compiling a record of 3,000,000 miles without an acci
dent at the General Motors Proving Grounds, Milford, Michigan.'
A. E. McManama, general supervisor of Buick’s road test depart
ment. lists the following as musts for Buick's driving team:
1
Good living habits — plenty of steep and rest,
• B°°^ frame of mind with no worries
while driving.
***** |T -
2 Break op monotony—stop for coffee I
or gas, at regular intervals, get out and
walk around. Never go more than two t
hours or 150 miles without estop. This n
keeps you fresh, alert and at your driv
ing peak.

ness and compassion.
Calvary is earth's greatest
breach with justice, but at the
same time it is our clearest
picture of God’s love. One can
not, with the marvel of mind
and Imagination, travel across
the centuries and stand at the
foot of the cross and look
afresh upon that scene without
being drawn closer to God,
Jesus went to the cross armed
only with compassion for
others, an unfaltering faith in
the measureless mercy and love
of God and the knowledge that
His Father would see Hi m
safely through. Jesus did not
flinch from the cross once He
knew that there was no other
way. Jesus knew a lesson that
we all need to learn. He knew
that God’s love for us will
neither make us immune from
pain and suffering, nor will it
exempt us from the trials and
tribulations of life, but God's
love will never desert us, it
will always see us safely
through the dark nights as we
journey toward the door that
leads to the living room of God.

The U. S. Department of Ag

some 870,000 pounds of these.
Stocks of feed grains on July
