p.m. ceremony, Sept. 8, at First
Baptist Church, Graniteville,

The church was decorated
with yellow and bronze pom
poms, chrysanthemums, and
gladiolas on white columns.
Palms and candelabras inter
spersed with greenery com
pleted the setting.
Mrs. Hoyt Burkette, orga
nist, and Mr. E. C. Thomas,
soloist, presented the wedding
music. Selections included
“Entreat Me Not to Leave
Thee”, “Seal Us, O Holy Spir
it" and “The Wedding Prayer."

town. Ga. was best man. Ush
ers were Mr. Kenneth Anglin
of Covington and Mr. Wm.
Perry Nelson of Clarkston, Ga.
Maid of honor was Miss Em
ma Ruth Yonn. She wore a
two-piece tan taffeta overlaid
with tan lace, crushed cum
merband enhanced with three
bows. Her matching head
bow was finished with a cir
cular veil and she carried a
nosegay of yellow pompoms.

The bride, given in marriage
by her father, wore a gown of
silk taffeta fashioned with a
fitted bodice and round neck
line trimmed with seed pearls
and sequins and brocade. The
long tapered sleeves were
pointed over the hands. The
full skirt was fashioned with
a bow leading into a brocaded
chapel train. Her fingertip veil
was attached to a tiara of seed
pearls and she carried a white
satin Bible topped with a
white yellow-throated orchid.
The bride’s mother wore a
toast silk-linen suit with
matching accessories and a
corsage of yellow carnations.
The grooms’ mother wore a
beige dress with matching ac
cessories and a corsage of yel
low carnation.
Following the ceremony a
reception was held in the
church's social hall. Assisting
were Mrs. Wendell Love, Miss
es Sarah Reeves, Virginia Dur
den. and Verlain Murphy. Miss
Ann Harrelson kept the bride’s
book.
For a wedding trip to the
| mountains the bride wore a
brown suit with matching ac
cessories and the orchid lifted
from her Bible. Upon their re
turn they will reside at 1420
College Street, Macon, Ga.

At Welaunee Hotel in Porterdale

Miss Gerry Lott and Robert
Strange were honored on
Thursday evening, September
6, with a rehearsal dinner at
the Welaunee Hotel in Porter
dale, given by Mr. and Mrs. J.
W. Strange.
The table was overlaid with
a white linen cloth and cen
tered with an arrangement of
yellow gladiolus. Figurines, sig
nifying the wedding party,
were placed artistically around
the floral arrangement.

theas” and “Roses”, was en
joyed.

were: blue, Mrs. Leo Mallard
and Horticulture awards, Mrs.
Mallard, 8 blue; Mrs. Sarah
Mobley, one blue and Mrs. C.
D. Ramsey, one red.

the program entitled “Counter
Attack on Communism”. Those

at the home of Mrs. Sammy
Moss.

Canaan Baptist Church Organizes
WMU and Youth Groups at Church

I meeting was called by the pas
i tor for the expressed purpose

lof organizing a Woman’s Mis-
I sionary Union and the youth
organizations: Sunbeam Band.
I Girls’ Auxiliary, and Young
Woman's Auxiliary—which are
fostered by the Woman’s Mis
sionary Union.
The meeting was called to
order by the pastor. After a
word of welcome, the Hymn
“Send the Light" was sung,
and Mrs. Jackie Walden read
the scripture taken from Mark
16:1-7. After the scripture Mrs.
Grady L. Glaze led the prayer.
The guest speakers were then
introduced: Mrs. M. M. Pattilo,
President of the Stone Moun
tain Associational Woman's
Missionary Union, and Mrs.
John Caylor, Jr.. Pastor’s wife
of the Lithonia Baptist Church
and Sunbeam Band Director for i
the Woman’s Missionary Union :

ation. Mrs. Pattillo brought an
inspiring message on the sub
ject: “How the W.M.U. helps
the church and the individual
member”: and Mrs. Caylor
thrilled our hearts as she gave
us much information on the
Sunbeam Band and told of the
need for one in every church.
After these informative and
inspiring messages the ladies
present voted unanimously to
recommend to the church that
the Woman’s Missionary Union
of Canaan Baptist Church be
organized. The closing prayer
was led by Mrs. M. G. Beam, Jr.
On Sunday night, September
2 the Nominating Committee
presented the following named
ladies to serve as the officers
for 1962-63—(along with the
ones to be named later to fill
the remaining offices) — and
recommended to the church
that Canaan Baptist Church
organize the Woman’s Mission

On Sept. Ist, 1962, the fami
lies of Chester King held a re
union in the edu cati on a 1
building at Bethany Presby
terian Church.
It was the first time in 19
years that all of the grandchil
dren were present at one time.
Joe King, son of Frank King
from Des Moines, lowa, made
his first visit to Georgia, and
really enjoyed meeting all of
his relatives.
